Fikb this Morning in the Nineteenth "Warp This nioininer, about 1 o'elocc, a de structive fire occurred at the large coton and woollen mills situated at Adams and Carroll streets, Nineteenth. Ward. The building was owned by Mr. William Beatty, and was occupied by dillerent parties. The tire was confined to the picker house, a one-story brick building situated at the rear of the main buildiue. and occupied by James Meddowcratt. The picker house was entirely destroyed, aud the stock and machinery nearly so. The loss on the destroyed building was about $1000, which was tully in sured. Mr. Meddowcrntt's loss on stock and machinery will reach $3000. on which there is an insurance of about $1000. The machinery injured was valued at about $.r000. The walls of the destroyed building remain standing, but all the Interior is a mass of reins. Descent by ibi Police. Shortly before 1 o'clock this morning, the police of the Fifth. Ward made a descent on a house No. 617 8. Seventh street, and a considerable haul ot vagrant characters was made. The house In question is unoccupied, but is nightlv made the place ot resort by n idnight murderer of both sexes, and of the colored persuasion. Their con duct not being of a remarkably quiet or digni fied character, parties who ocsupy the base ment entered a complaint at the Fifth Ward Station House, and hence the arrest. About fifteen individual, some of whom were nearly frozen to death with cold, were transferred from the house to Jloyamensing Prison via the Firth Ward Station House. Arrested on Suspicion of Theft. Yesterday aiternoon three men were arrested near the Baltimore Depot, on suspicion of steal ing the sum ot $200 from a man in that locality. The party were taken before Alderman Lutz, but the evidence not being strong or conclusive, two of them were discharged and the other retained for a further healing. The party retained hails Irom Wilmington, Delaware. John Wilson was arrested at the Baltimore Depot last evening, Inst as he was emerging Irom a train of cars from Wilmington, Del., charged with stealing a lot of clothing from a party in that city. The arrest was made in accordance with a despatch sent to the police of this city from Wilmington. Ah Accommodation to Western Tra vellers. The Pennsylvania Railroad Company have recently opened an office for the sale of tickets and the checking of baggaee at No. 631 Chesnut street.' At sn early hour this morning the dyeing estab lishment of Thomas Padden, No. 1018 Pine treet, was entered by some burglar or bnrglars by forcing open the front door, and a quantity of Roods stolen valued at $5000. Mr. Padden's loss -will consist principally in his responsibility for a large number of articles of clothing left at his establishment by different parties to be dyed. As yet no clue has been obtained as to the whereabouts of the robbers. Wife Beating.
