Dr. Ho-nbergcr, from the Committee to prepare a form of permanent organization, then presented a Constitution for an Association to be called "The Sabbath Union of the City ot Philadelphia," the object of which in to promote, by suilaiile mentis, a due recard for the Sabbath as a Divfte institution, and for the elvil laws enacted to maintain its proper obser vance ; and to watch and opposo all efforts, which may be made to have thone laws aoroeated or o changed as to give legislative license to the vio lation or secularization of the Lord's Day. Any person friendly to ihe cause to be considered a member on signing the Constitution. The Board oi Managers of the Union to meet monthly, and a general meeting f the members to be held annually. On motion, the Constitution, as re ported, waa unanimously adopted. The Com mittee reported as permanent officers: Jay Cooke, President; Rev. Mr. Htcvenson, Secre tary; YV. E. Tenbroik, Treasurer. The monthly meeting was held on Monday evening, President Weten in the chair. Twenty-two new members were nominated, and unanimously elected. The secre tary stated that this carried the number of new members to more than three hundred. Mr. Tatham, for the committee, reportsd the project of a constitution or form ot organization of an "Associated National Board of Trade" (not a Gov ernment Board), to be (ormcd by delegations Irom the various mercantile associations in the country, for the purpose of harmonizing and concentrating mercantile influence, and, by this means, advancing the industrial interests of the whole country. The report was adopted and ordered to be forwarded to Boston, for compari son with other plans. In view of the great in terest lelt in tbo success of the proposed Southern or Coastwise Steamship Company, on motion, the Board reaffirmed' their position for merly taken on the resolution proposed by Mr. Wheeler, and unanimously adopted resolutions urging business men to support the project. The Mercantile Libbabt. The annual meeting of the Mercantile Library Association was held last evening, and from the annual report we glean the folio wine: The collection ot books now comprises near 38,000 volumes. Of these 7504 were added during the year 67 by donation, 165 by binding periodicals, and 7272 by direct purchase. The following nominations were made: For President, T. M. Tho Odd Fellows are making an energetic movement for the erection ot a new hall in a central location. New German Luther ax Church. At the corner of Fifteenth and Oirden streets a new church is about to be erected. It will have a front of sixty-four feet on Fitieenth 6treet, and runs parallel with Ojjden street ninety-two feet. It is to be built oi brick and stone, rather plain, but neat and strong. Yester day William McCloud hud a hearing on the c harpe of having pas ed a ton dollar counterfeit bill on Jacob Myers, of New Oxford, Adams county. The defendant was brought down from Gettysburg by Deputy Mar-dials Schuyler and Sharkey. Mr. Myers testified ihat he is keeping a turnpike gate n the York and Gettysburg turnpike, and thet on the 'lHh of last December defendant rode up in a one-horse buggy, and presented a ten dollar bill tor the payment ot toll. McCloud was committed in default of $2000 bail to answer. The Fire Zouaves. A meeting of the Philadelphia Fire Zouaves wus held last evening in the Schuylkill Hose house. Colonel D. W. C. Baxter occupied the chair. A constitution and by-laws for the government of the organization was taken up and adopt.-d. alter which it wim referred to a committee. The extensive Wrick barn on the Kenderton estate, near the Riing SunJvillHRC, has been enlarged, and will shortly be used for manufacturing silk ribbons by a gen tleman of this c!t, who is now In Eurooe ob taining operatives and the necessary machinery. He is also erecting, for his bands, about a dozen to-storv brick dwellings, In the vicinity of his factory. ' We believe that this is the only factory of the kind in this country, and will, no doubt, prove a successful undertaking. Snow Sculpture. The frot of the Fairmount Engine House is ornamented by a snow-man ten feet in height, and properly pro portioned. It certainly reflects credit on the skill of the sculptor, or sculptors, for It Is a really excllent work of art ol the kind. The feature', limbs, dress, etc., are all well defined. Last evening the figure was illuminated by a large lamp placed directly in front of it. which showed the icatures of the statue oir to advan vantage. A New Afternoon Paper. A new afternoon daily has been started, which is pub lished under tiie title of the PlalwWphia Abend l'oft. Our early Teutonic education was some what neglected, hut we believe that the Abend is lreely translated Evening. The first number promises well, and presents a tine appearance. The German type looks well, though to many jt is a Sphynx-like mystery. We wish our contem porary every success. Shocking Affair Child Burned to two years, residing at Mo. 1830 Pennsylvania avenue, was naaiy Darned yesterday morning, from the effects of which she died Hctween five and six o'clock in the afternoon.
