known that they were to be stubbornly resisted,

I'nltimore and the western and upper counties,

of Clinton, and about thirty Keoel suldiers, worn

of Rebel forces, narrowly escaped capture. They
certainly would have been brought in as prisoners

pressed enward in the direction of Liberty, Miss.

lerists who were in the town, he killed forty and
captured one captain, one lieutenant, and' fifty
