DILL OX THE RECOKDKITB BILL.
His Consistent Opposition to
This Justly Obnoxious and
Wantonly Offensive Measure.
The following letter from Senator
Dill, the Democratic candidate tor
Governor, was yesterday received
by Mr. Kansley :
JLEWISBUKG, Oct. 21, IS7B.
GENTLEMEN : Your favor of the
4th instant did not reach me until
my return home yesterday and I
hasten to reply. When the Record
er's biil was before tne Senate I con
sistently and earnestly opposed it, in
debute and by my votes, and 1 re
garded it t such a llagrant outrage
against the spirit if not the very let
ter of the Constitution, and against
all considerations of public policy
and the individual rights of the citi
zens of Philadelphia that I felt con
strained to refuse my support to the
confirmation of litcorder Quay. 1
can only say that my record as a
would be my record as Gov
ernor of the State should I be called
to that important position, and no
legitimate and constitutional efforts
would be left untried on uiy part to
effect the repeal of this justly obnox
ious and wantonly oppressive mea
sure. Very Respectfully.
A. 11. DILL.

least of all did it oerur to us that

said article was headed "Advertise

we bad expressed our hearly support
of Mr. Alexander just the week tie

We have but a casual acquaint

a gentleman personally, but as h.
Greenback candidate he certainly
lias no claim on Demoeiottc votes.
We are assurer! too, that he is a

deter every Democrat from voting
for him. no matter what else he may

Mr. Alexander deserves the full

are satisfied that lie will have it.
