DEMOCRATIC COUNTY CONVENTION-
At a meeting of the Democratic
County Committee, held in Bel ford,
on Monday, Feb. 14th, the following
resolutions were adopted:
Rexo/red, That it is the sense of t his
Committee that a County Jonvention
should l>e called for the purio-e of ta
king into consideration the propriety
of altering and revising the rules of the
Democratic party of Bedford county
governing nominations.
Rexotoed, That such Convention is
hereby called to meet at the Court
House, in Bedford, on TUESDAY
EVENING, March 1, (Special Court)
and that each election district shall l>e
entitled to one delegate in said Con
vention.
In pursuance of said resolutions a
Convention composed of prominent
Democrats from a large majority of
districts met at the Court House, in
Bedford, and adopted the following:
Remixed, That the Rules of the Dem
ocratic party adopted in the year 1869,
l>e suspended tor the present and that
a county convention to consist of one
delegate from each election district be
called tn meet at the Court house in
Bedford, on Tuesday evening of April
court, for thepurpo-eof determining
the propriety of changing the rules at
pre-ent governing the party.
Resolved, That the chairman of the
Democratic County Committee is here
by instructed to give notice through
the columns of the lied ford GAZETTE
that an election wilt be held to elect
delegates to said Convention, in the
several districts of the county, on
Saturday, tlie 23d day of April, 1870.
By authority of the above resolutions,
a Democratic County Conven lion is
called to assemble at the Court House,
in Bedford, on Tuesday evening, April
26th (Court week), to consist of one
delegate from each election district in
thecounty, and the Vigilance Commit
tees of the respective townships are le
quired to hold an election in their said
districts, for the election of one dele
gate, for the purpose aforesaid, on SAT
URDAY, APRIL 23d, 1876, between
the hours of 2 and 4 o'clock in the af
ternoon.

town last week voted on the question

of A. and made a separate District,

A Chicago husband complains that
his wife has thoroughly learned the
game of "draw poker." She draws
the jioker with entirely too much of
an air and grace and brings it down
with a vim on his devoted head.
G. H. Spang and A. King, Jr., have
entered into partnership in the prac
tice of the law, in the office heretofore
occupied by Mr. Spang. We wish the
new firm abundant success.
An act to incorporate the State Line
and Juniata Railroad Company has
pas-ed the Legislature. The road is
to commence at a point where said
line crosses Licking creek in Franklin
county, thence along said creek through
Fulton county to connect with the
Pennsylvania Central at or near Mount
Uniou.
The "Border Claim" bill has been
killed in the Legislature. All the
leading loil papers In tlie State fought
its passage. The sufferers in the bord
er counties dating the several rebel
raids need not expect relief until the
political complexion of t lie Legislature
is changed.

DEATH OF AN AGED TOLL-GATE
KEEPER-— Mr. William Binkiey re
ceiver of tolls, on the East side of the
Cove mountain, on >he ChainVersburg
and Bedford Turnpike, died on Wed
nesday last, a week,— aged sixty year-.

years; and what isstiil more strange,
he lias not beeu, ow ing to ill health,
in any domicile, other than his own,

II EAD OF NAVIGATION.—A Bid re
cent'y p ssed the Legislature, author
izing the Pennsylvania Canal Compa
ny to abandon theeaual from this place
to Hollidayshurg, a distance of 39
miles. This may be good news for old
Huntingdon, but it is certainly bad for
our western neighbors. Huntingdon
under this bill becomes the head of
Navigation.— Man itor.
PLAYING HANGlNG.— Thursday iast
several young lads conceived the id* a
of a game of hanging and at onca re
pair* d to Mr. Benj. Graffius'yard to
complete arrangements. A gallows
was formeu by placing sticks across the
trellis ot a grape arbor. Upon this
platform a lad named Cunningham
was placid, one end of u rope adjusted
around his neck aul the other
end fastened to the cross-beam of
the arbor. The strips upon
which lie was standing were then
kicked from under his feet and he fell
as far as the rope would allow and for
an instant bung by the neck strug
gling for life. Fortunately the cross
piece to which the rope was attached,
broke, or we wouid have to chronicle
a sad death instead of this narrow es
ca{*e. Young C's neck was quite blue
and but a few more seconds would
have caused death.— Monitor.

don tells us that no tribes of aborigi

The question as to whether the pro
jected railroad to Morrison's Cove shall
start from Hollidayshurg or New ry,
lias not vet been settled. At the re
cent meeting of the Board of Directors
of the Pi nn'a Pail road, a coniinittee
wa~- appointed to view the different
routes and make report thereon. Con
sidering the great rivalry lietween the
two points, the people of tfe Cove ran
now rest assured that they will soon
have railroad connection with the rest
of mankind, let the commencement be
