SLIGHTLY PREVIOUS.—The Radi
cals of Blair county, in their call for
primary elections, have affectionately
invited their fifteenth amendment
brethren to participate. All "llepubli

i right of suffrage has been conferred by
j Constitutional Amendment ," are reques
ted to vote. The radicals of Blair in
their "indecent haste" to gobble up tlie

MILITIA FINES.—The House, at

FIRE.—The tannery situated in Weds
township, this erimty, owned by
Me-srs. Lyon and Met' Lire, wns d -
stroy.-d by fire on Friday merßiog
last. It appears that the pipes were
frozen up, and some of the hands at
tempted to thaw them by holding
burning torches under them- It is
supposed to have taught from this,
though one of the owners, Mr. Mc-
Clurc, examined the premises tbe
night Ik-.fore about 9 o'clock and ap- i
patently every itiTng was right. The
fire was discovered about _ in the
morning. We understand there was
an insurance of 4-U,ooo on the lannery.

SKUNKS.—The high premium en
seal; s appears to have increased the
number of pestiferous aninm's in this
county wonderfully. Scalps of foxes,
hawks, owls and skunks are pouring
into tbe c unty treasurer at a rate that
threatens to financially weaken that
institution. One man in St. Clair
township has presented the scalps of one
hundred and sixteen skunks, within i!.e
, last two months! Iu other sections
the "tribe" of that highly pertumed
i animal seem- to be equally prolific,
judging from the number of ears that
are presented almost daily for pay
ment of premium. We wonder
whether some of the skunks do not,
like the one captured by the French
man, "look like one 'possum in de
face!" Frenchmen are not the only
- eople that make mistakes of that
kind.
MEETING OF THE CREDITORS OF
REED A SCHELL.—According to an
nouncement the credo >rs of lited A
Sehell met at the Court House on last
Friday at 1 o'clock. John R- Jordan
was chosen President and H. W. Fish
er ami J. E. Biack, Secretaries. This
meeting was calico at the suggestion
of Mr. Sehell, who, according to the j
I notice given in the papers, was "anx
ious to know what di-positiin the
creditors would desire him to make of
his property w as to realize the great
est amount for the cre<litors of Reed A
Sehell." The nieeiing was largely at
tended. Mr. Sehell was present and
proposed to the creditors that he was
willing to give 3o,(>o0 in money, pay
able in four annual installments, with
interest, to be secured by deeds of
trust, towards liquidating -;he indebt
edness of Reed A .Sehell, ptovided the i
creditors would give him a fuil re
lease .-o far as he was individually con- '
earned. A resolution embodying this t
proposition w-s offer* d 'and voted;
down. Next a resolution looking to
bankruptcy was offered and almost u- ;
naniinously rejeeteil. The Assignee- of
lieed A. Sciiell, through tneir attor
ney, made a statement of the assets
and liabilities of the conoetfi. A good
deal of talking was indulged in, but
the meeting adjourned without reach- j
ing any practical result. Mr. Sehell, ;
before nd at the meeting, was uuwill
ing to appoint assignees, which raused
a strong feeling among t.be creditors to j
force tne parties into bankruptcy.— i
Sin e the meeting we learn that Mr.
Sehell has consented to make an assign
ment of all his property for the benefit
of the creditors of Re d A Sehell, pro
vided he berelea-tsi as above stated.—
If this be done, we have no doubt that
it iri!l be generally satisfactory.
