Spring time has not yet come, gentle Annie. - A military company has been form ed in Huntingdon. Next Friday is "Ail Fools Day. Look out for huge sells. Garden time will soon be here. — Hunt up the shovel and the hoe. Faster Sunday occurs this year on the 17th day of April. Eggs-aetly. , Bedford has the prettiest store rot m in the State outside of Philadelphia. Thirty persons were initiated by the Good Templars of Somerset, last week, j To validate a deed it must be recor ded vviihin six months after date of . purchase. Now is the time to trim trets and grape vines. This important matter should be attended to at once. The Fulton Republican has changed hands—Mr. H. E. Shafer retiring and H. B. Jeffries taking charge of the pa per. > An act has pasxd the Legislature exempting sewing machines in use in families from levy aud from sale for • debt. Episcopal services will be held in the court house on next Sunday, and the iio'y Communion will be administer- ! cd by Rev. Mr. Pedlupe. The chap who remarked, "Still I Love Thee," changed his tune after marriage to "I love thee still" —but she wouldn't be still. A Somerset youth was recently frightened into convulsions by a wo man whom he mistook for a ghost. These women are unsubstantial crea tures. A disease similar to the whooping cough prevails among tiie children of Huntingdon. A great many have died. The Rev. Dr. Hamlin will preach in the Methodist church next Sabbath, at half pest 10 o'clock, the occasion of the first quarterly meeting. Conundrum —Had "our member" anything to do with the recent trans fer of the Fulton Republican to other hands?" "How r much you make?" The first quarter of the Wood berry Model and Normal School under the charge of the County Superintendent, will begin on Tuesday the sth of April. Girls to whose olfactories the odor of dish water is not an abomination are the best article in the matrimonial market. Sensible young men can bid high on such. If the Hollidaysburg Register will confine itself to/acw we will try and an-wer some of its astute conundrums. We haven't time to waste in replying to its incongruous statements. George Altmillerof Somerset coun- ; ty was convicted last week, at Pitts- i burg, for illicit distilling, and sentenc- ' ed to pay a tine of one thousand dol lars and six month's imprisonment. The school directors of Huntingdon county met, last week, lor the purpose of increasing the salary of the County Superintendent. And they did in crease it to the amount of just fifty cents I Magnanimous Directors! The census-takers will commence their rounds on the first of oune next, and are required to report to the Su perintendent by the first of November following. The census is taken under the law governing those of IBsy-'6O. DEDICATION.—Tuesday the 26th d iy of April is the Anniversary of the Or der of Odd Fellows. Oa that day tie Lodge of this place will parade in fui! regalia and dedicate.their lot in the Cemetery with appropriate cereiuo- j cies. REMOVED.—T. P. Beegle A Bro. have removed their meat vending es tablishment, to the room recently oc cupied by George Mardorff. Having "pulled up stakes" they are ready, as heretofore, to furnish all customers with the most delicious steak the mar ket affords. EXHIBITION.—The schools of B. F. Harcleroad and Abraham Weisel, Jr., in Co I era in township, bad a joint ex hibition in the brick church, at the close of the winter term. The perfor- j inaoeesare represented as having been very good, reflecting credit alike on teachers and pupils. ROAI> IMPROVEMENT. —The Bedford and Sloytsown turnpike is being put in excellent condition. The company have commenced the repairs much ear lier than usuai this sea on, so as to g t the roa.l iu good order for the traveling public by Spring. For this the mana gers deserve great credit. Lyon and Met' Lire, wns d - stroy.-d by fire on Friday merßiog last. It appears that the pipes were frozen up, and some of the hands at tempted to thaw them by holding burning torches under them- It is supposed to have taught from this, though one of the owners, Mr. Mc- Clurc, examined the premises tbe night Ik-.fore about 9 o'clock and ap- i patently every itiTng was right. The fire was discovered about _ in the morning. We understand there was an insurance of 4-U,ooo on the lannery. | —Ralton Rf pubtii on. SKUNKS.—The high premium en seal; s appears to have increased the number of pestiferous aninm's in this county wonderfully. Scalps of foxes, hawks, owls and skunks are pouring into tbe c unty treasurer at a rate that threatens to financially weaken that institution. One man in St. Clair township has presented the scalps of one hundred and sixteen skunks, within i!.e , last two months! Iu other sections the "tribe" of that highly pertumed i animal seem- to be equally prolific, judging from the number of ears that are presented almost daily for pay ment of premium. We wonder whether some of the skunks do not, like the one captured by the French man, "look like one 'possum in de face!" Frenchmen are not the only - eople that make mistakes of that kind. MEETING OF THE CREDITORS OF REED A SCHELL.—According to an nouncement the credo >rs of lited A Sehell met at the Court House on last Friday at 1 o'clock. John R- Jordan was chosen President and H. W. Fish er ami J. E. Biack, Secretaries. This meeting was calico at the suggestion of Mr. Sehell, who, according to the j I notice given in the papers, was "anx ious to know what di-positiin the creditors would desire him to make of his property w as to realize the great est amount for the creo0 in money, pay able in four annual installments, with interest, to be secured by deeds of trust, towards liquidating -;he indebt edness of Reed A .Sehell, ptovided the i creditors would give him a fuil re lease .-o far as he was individually con- ' earned. A resolution embodying this t proposition w-s offer* d 'and voted; down. Next a resolution looking to bankruptcy was offered and almost u- ; naniinously rejeeteil. The Assignee- of lieed A. Sciiell, through tneir attor ney, made a statement of the assets and liabilities of the conoetfi. A good deal of talking was indulged in, but the meeting adjourned without reach- j ing any practical result. Mr. Sehell, ; before nd at the meeting, was uuwill ing to appoint assignees, which raused a strong feeling among t.be creditors to j force tne parties into bankruptcy.— i Sin e the meeting we learn that Mr. Sehell has consented to make an assign ment of all his property for the benefit of the creditors of Re d A Sehell, pro vided he berelea-tsi as above stated.— If this be done, we have no doubt that it iri!l be generally satisfactory.
