HEMOCKATIU MEETING. —One of the hirgoM and most enthusiastic town meetings ever known in Bedford, was held ;tt the Court House, on Saturday evening la-t, for the purpose of ratify ing the nomination of HON. llrK.sTF.it OLYMKR, for (iovernor, and to select a ticket to he supported at the borough election to-day (Friday). Hon. Job Mann, President of the Keystone Club, assisted byMaj. Sansoiaaud Isaac Men gel, 11-q., as Vice Presidents, presided over the meeting. The meeting was addres-ed by 13. F. Meyers and O. E. Shannon, Esqs., in advocacy of the res toration policy of President Johnson, and the election of Mr. Clymer, as the representative iff that policy. Every allusion to the President, or Mr. Clymer, caused the most tremendous cheering by the audience. This meeting evinced the fact that the Democracy are up anil doing and determined to conquer. The following ticki't was nominated to le -ujiporteil by the Democrat.- and John sou men of Beilfonl borough, at the el lection to-dav i Friday): Chief Burgess, George Blymyer. Assistant Burgess, J. J. Shoemaker. Councilmen, f. 11. Lyons, D. Border. High Constable, \Vm. Earnest. A ml it or, ll. Yeager. Constable. John Harris. Judge of Election, 11. Xicodemus. Inspector, John Boor. .lxsv.v-.sor, J. M. Gephart. Supervisor*, Jolm Miller, A.Leonard. Toien Clerk, J. Henry Hutton. School Directors, Jaeob Heed, T. R. Bettys. This is an excellent ticket and we hope every I Hanocrat and every friend in the President will give it his cordial support. Rf member that this ticket was nominated by a meeting that en 'lor-etl Andrew Johnson and those who would sustain him in his noble efforts to restore the Union and to give us per manent peace, will fail to do so, if they permit it to l>e defeated. Let every man do his duty. BEDFOKO TOWNSHIP DEMOCRATIC TICKET.— The gallant Democracy of Bedford township, met at the Court House, on Saturday last, and nomina ted the following ticket, which should revive the support of every Cnion-lov ing citizen of that district : ('unstable —l). \V. Amos. Jut tier —James A. Anderson. Assessor—Jacob Hershberger. Judge of Election —J. T. Gephart. Inspector —Jonathan lteighard. Srhcto! Directors —Thomas Gilehriest, Henry B. Pensyl. Take the W heeler & Wilson machine for instance, which is a general favorite everywhere, and pne is struck with surprise at the immense demand for them which ex ists. <>f these machines (justly celebra ted as embracing all those qualities which render a sewing machine valua ble, without any of the defects which are so often to be found in machines of an inferior quality,) 12,000 are now sold quarterly, the Pittsburg agency of W. Sumner A Co., Fifth street, alone sell ing from sixty to seventy every week. This firui employs fifteen teams in car rying on tncir business, and there is no village in Western Pennsylvania, Eas tern Ohio, or Western Virginia, not reached by their operations. Thede mand for the Wheeler & Wilson ma chines is perhaps one of the strongest proofs of its utility and efficiency. It always gives satisfaction, no matter what kind of work it is wanted for, hence its great popularity. Mr. Car penter informs us that he has now at his office a large assortment, in every style of case, and all warranted, as usu- al, to give general satisfaction. Those about buying a machine will do well to bear this in mind, and give him a call before purchasing.— Pittsburg <y>m meiviaf. Bi si XESS MAN WANTED, to repre sent the wiiE I; L I : K &\\ I LSI X s K\VI NG MACHINE, in Bedford county. Liberal arrangements will be made with a per son of the right stamp. Ministers and students find this a pleasant and profit able employment. Address immedi ately, WM. SUMNER A Co., Pittsburg, Pa. THE CULTIVATION OF SORGHUM.— Some years ago Mr. J. 1 lenry Schell, of S,•hell-burg. brought from Kansas, a quantity of Sorghum seed, which he planted and from which he raised a crop that yielded a very fair profit up on the labor and expense employed in the experiment. Since then the cul j ti vat ion of this plant has engaged the attention of a number of farmers in i different parts of thecounty. We have been informed that last year several persons cleared upwards of s<>oo on patches of a few acre- planted in sor ; ghuni. Our climate and soil seem to be j admirably adapted to the culture of this plant, and we should not be sur prised if it would eventually become one of the staple-of the county. The syrup expressed from the sorghum j cane possesses very strong saccharine qualities and i- a very palatable article | for the table. We are of the opinion that our agriculturists would do well to I engage extensively in the culture of this plant, as it will certainly return I iheiii a ran* piuiic upon the labor and money they may expend upon it. A BEDFORD COUNTY OIL COMPANY IN LUCK.— A letter from our friend Jere. Baughman, informs us that the "Salt Creek Oil C 0.," in which many | Bedford county people are interested, j struck a well of heavy lubricating oil, on the 7th inst. When it was struck, the oil was thrown all around the well by the force of the gas. 3lr. Baughman thinks it will he a fifty barrel well.— j The "Stump Islands Oil C 0.," of this place, are said to have -truck a large well. LECTURE.— Rev. INFLUENZA, DIPHTHERIA. —In inflammatory affections, when no bleeding is permitted, a free use of these pills soon modifies the alarmingsymptoms. and perseverance, according to the directions, usually quickly cures, and certainly nothing is risked in using Brandreth's Pills. Forcold, influenza, diphtheria, pains of the head, dizziness and apoplexy, no medicine can be compared to them. In erysipelas, fever and ague, sinall-pox, and in all the diseases of childhood, their use insures a speedy recovery of health. They produce these results simply by taking from the blood its impurities, leaving this rital fluid free. to aid a weak "locality" to recover its proper and necessary "status" or health. Brandreth s Pills have affinity for the subject mutter of disease, and cause its certain expulsion from the body. [Feb 23-lm DR.
