THE HOME JOURNAL
FOR 1863.
We live much pleasure in informing the public
that ole of our contributors for tbe coming year,
will b our old friend and colleague
THEODORE S. FAY.
We confess to uncommon pride and pleasure i n
this renewal of intercourse with the friend and in
timate of oilier days, and we look to be felici
tated for it, by the established readers wdo consti
tute tie family of the HOMK JOURNAL.
We have in preparation, also, for tbe coming
year, several
VERY THRILLING STORIES-
Some of tbe ablest of living pens are engaged
for us in translating from the Trench anil German
and our own original narrative writers are among
the first.
We are foitunate, also, i n travellers gone abroad
who are literary contributors, and we anticipate
for our readei s a most agreeable surprise in the
quality of these
Sketches of Travels and Adventures.
But the future of our journal, which we have not
yet mentioned, is perhaps the most recherche of
all its prominence as
THE EXPONENT OF REFINED SOCIETY.
Our correspondence with the leaders of fashion,
in New Yoik and the other capitals, is especially
valuable in this inspect, keeping us unmistakably
informed of the changes and progress of what is
commonly understood by the "gay world." As
WP have taken some pains to arrange the resources
for this new feature, we speak eonfidently of its
promise of entertainment to our large circle of read
ers. In this department, foreign journals are end
lessly inventive j and, with our industrious ran
sacking of these, we are sure to select, for the pe
culiar taste to which we minister, a most relishing
banquet.
TEienCdifors
will give the Journal their vonst int attention, as
before. Of tbe goings on, in the eventful scenes
and places of the country, Mr. Willis's pen will
give photographs as usual. Geneial Morris's Songs
anif Sketches will he embroidered on the thread of
the passing moment, as they have always been.
Some of the best intellects of thp land are en'i-ted
for us, also, and we think we may promise to hold
our place . the journal which best enables TIIE
FAMILY TO keep convers ant with the world.

FOH 1863.
1 Great Literary and Pictorial Year.
The publisher of Godey's Lady's Book, thank
ful to that public which has enabled him to pub
lish a magazine for the last thirty-three years ol
larger circulation than any in America, has made
an arrangement wi'h the most popular authors in
this country—MAßlON HARLANL), Authoress
of "Alone," "Hidden Path," "Moss Side.," "Ne
mesis," and "Mniam," who will furnish a story
for every Number of the Lady's Book for 1803.
This alone will place the Lady's Rook in a literary
point of view far ahead of any other magazine.
/Marion Harland writes for no other publication.
! Our other favorite writers will allcontmue to furnish
I articles throughout the year.
The lest Lady's Magazine in the World, and the
cheapest,
j The literature is of that Kind that ran be read
aloud in the family circle, and the clergy in irn
| mene numbers are subscribers for the Book,
i The music is all original, and would cost 25cts.
| (the prce of the Book) in the music stores; but
most of it is copyrighted, and cannot be obtuined
except in Gotley.
Our Steel Engravings.—All efforts to"rival us
in this have ceased, and we now stand "alone in
this department, giving, as we do, many more and
infinitely better engravings than are published in
I anv other work.
Godey's immense double sheer fashion plate's
containing I'iom five to seven full length Colored
Fashions on each plate. Other magazines give
only two. Far ahead of any fashions in K urope
or America. Godey's is the only vvorlt in the
world that gives these immense plates, and they
are such as to have excited the wonder of publish
ers and the public. The publication of the
plates cost 10,000 MORE than Fashion-plates of
the old style, and nothing but our wonderfully
large circulation enables us to give them—Other
magazines cannot hft'urd it. We never spare
when the public can be benefitted.
These fashions may bo relied on. Dresses may
be made after them, and the wearer will not sub
ject herself to ridicule, as would be the case if she
visited the large cities dressed after the ,style of
fhe plates given in some of our so-called fashion
magazines
Our wood engravings, of which wo give twice
or three tunes us many as any other magazine, are
often mistaken for steel. Tbey are so far superi
or to and others.
Imitations —beware of them. Remember that
the Lady's llook is the original publicationand the
Cheapest. If you lakeGodey, you want no other
magazine.
Everything lhat is useful or ornamental in a
house can bp found in Oodey.
Draining Lossnns —no othermagazine gives them,
and we have given enough to lill several targe vol
umes.
Our Rsreipts —are such as can be found nowhere
else. Coouing in all its variety—Confectionery
the Nursery—the Toilet—the Laundry—the kitch
en. Receipts upon all subjects are to he found in
the pages of the Lady's Rook. We originally
started this department, and have peculiar facilties
for making it most perfect. This department ulone
is worth the price of the Rook.
I.ttdtes I Yur/r. 'Tahiti —This department comprises
engravings and descriptions of every article that a
