Ayef's Sawn pari Ila IS a concentrated extract of Tira Sarsaparilla, so combined with other substances of still greater alterative power a* to a Sard an effective antidote lor diseases SarsapariHa is reputed to cure. Two years ugo she had an attack ! i of acute rheumatism, from which she was confined j 1 to her be-t for two weeks, nnd sub-equently from a [ ! relapse for four more. She has been wellainct then | till last Saturday ; while engaged in house-cleaning i she took cold, had pain in back, felt cold but i had no decided chill. Two days later her ankles ; began to swell, wuich was followed by swelling of the knee joints anr of the hands. She has now dull pain in her shoulders, and her knuckles xre very | tender, red and painful ; both hands are affected, > but the right is most so. This, then, is a ease ot | ;tcut rheumatism, or, as it is now fashionably ealt : ed, rheumatic lever. It is a weii marked typical : esse. We will carefu'ly watch the case, and from i time to time call your attention to the various i symptoms which piesent themselves. My chief j object in bringing her before you now, is to call your attention to a remedy which has recently been leconainended in the treatment of rheumatism, j mean propylamine. Dr. Awenarius, of St. Peters burg, recommends it in tbe highest terms, having derived great benefit from its use in 250 cases which came under his caie. Various com n*olitory tes timonials respecting it have appea ed in our jour nals, and 1 propose therefoie to g.ve it another trial, i must confers I am always lucredulous as to the worth of new remedies, which aie vaunted as spe cifics; but tnis comes to us recommended so hignjy, that we are bound to give it a trial. SAME CASE FOUR DAYS LATEK! MAY 23, 1860.—1 will now exhibit you the pa tient for whom I prescribed Propy lamine, end who was then laboring under an attack of acjte rheuma tism. She has steadily taken it in doses of three grains, every two hours, (intermitting it at night). The day after you saw her, 1 found her much more comfortable, better than she expected to be for a week or more, judging from her other attack, ("the patient now walked into the room.) The improve ment has steadily pro."aes'sed, and you counol fail to notice a marked change in the appearance of her joints, which are now nearly of their natural size. Thus far our experiment would have seemed very successfuil ; but gentlemen, we must wait a little while before we car. give a decided opinion-as to what is to be tbe result. Here is another patient who was placed on the use of the ; ame medicine on Sunday last; she has long been suffering fiprn chronic rheumatism, and I found hr at that time with ail acute attack super vening upon her chronic affection. Tbe-wrists and knuckles were much swollen and tense. She took the chloride of propylamine in three grain doses every two hours, anJ you will perceive that tbo swelling of the joints has much diminished. THREE DAYS LATER!! MAT 26, 1860 This is the case ot acute rheum- I < atism treated with propylamine, the first of those to I | which I called your attention at oifr last clinic. She ;1 is still very comfortable, and i now taking three 1 I grains thrice daily. 4 j ' In this case it has seemed to be followed by very I 1 satisfactory results. This gentleman t 8 what may be called a strictly typical case of acute rheumatism.
