Many people have never heard of the Little Wiconisco Creek. They don’t know where it is located and that it is desig nated as an “impaired” stream. The Little Wiconisco Creek drains an area of more than 17 square miles from Berrysburg to Millersburg. AH of the creek, in cluding the little streams that feed it are struggling to support the aquatic life naturally found within a healthy stream. Al though pastoral and pictur esque, the watershed is slowly succumbing to man’s increasing pressures on the land. The Dauphin County Conser vation District (DCCD) is cur rently conducting a study of the Little Wiconisco Creek Watershed and is preparing to hold public workshops pertain ing to water pollution in the creek. The workshops entitled “Little Wic & You”, will include the natural history of the watershed, the current condi tions of the creek and methods to prevent pollution and im prove water quality within the watershed. Two types of meetings are being offered. Each with a slightly different focus. The Non-agricultural workshop highlights concerns and actions specific to the residential com munity. The Agricultural work shop is designed to address impacts and practices that are unique to the agricultural com munity. The workshops are as follows: Agricultural Residents: Berrys burg Community Center, Oct. 20, 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m; or Oct. 23, 10:30 a.m.-l p.m. Non- Agricultural Residents: Grace United Methodist Church, Med ical Road, Millersburg, Oct. 23, 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. For more information, con tact the Dauphin County Con servation District at (7171 921- 8100.
