    Dairylea Co-Op Recognizes Quality Producers
SYRACUSE, N.Y. Dairylea Cooperative, Inc.,
honored member producers with top quality milk
through the 2002-2003 Milk Quality Management
Award Program at its annual meeting Oct. 14-15 in
Liverpool, N.Y.
Members are judged each month for 12-
consecutive months on multiple criteria, including
somatic cell count of 300,000 or less, no added
water, no growth inhibitors, and no off flavor, odor,
or questionable appearance.
The following members are recognized as pro
ducing the highest quality milk from June 2002-
June 2003. They are among more than 117 members
who qualified all 12 months of the program. The
final, top quality rankings were based on the lowest
index derived from dividing the average monthly
standard plate count by 1,000 and the average
monthly somatic cell count by 50,000 and then
adding the two numbers together.
Dairylea member-farms honored this year are:
• Balsam View Dairy Brian, Heidi, Harold,
and Donna Newton, McDonough, N.Y.;
• Jerry and Kathy Beary, Cranberry;
• Louis and Lois DesJardins, Munnsville, N.Y.;
