DVC Duster Kit Kat, an aged cow was named grand champion at the 2003 Bucks County Hol stein Show which took place re cently at the Middletown Grange Fair in Wrightstown. She was ex hibited by Delaware Valley Col lege, Doylestown. The reserve grand champion went to another aged cow, Tran quility Sunbuck Sail, shown by Nicole Bishop of Plumsteadville. A spring yearling, DVC Dur ham Harriet, shown by Delaware Valley College, Doylestown, was judged the junior champion while Smithson Durham Pretzel, a fall yearling shown by Joshua Bishop of Plumsteadville, was the Re serve Junior Champion. The premier breeder and pre mier exhibitor awards were cap tured by the Bishop Family, En senada Holsteins in Plumsteadville. Jim Burdette, a Holstein breeder from Mercerburg, was the judge. Stephen Worthington. Perry County Dairy Shows NEWPORT (Perry Co.) The Perry County Fair dairy show, youth show, and Holstein show were conducted on Aug. 20 at the Perry County Fairgrounds. Judge Melanie Bachman of Potter County lined up the entrants for the combined show. Winners of the senior show manship contest were Erica Kresge and Nicholas Boaz. They were named the overall winners of the 4-H showmanship contest and competed in the supreme showmanship contest. Erica was named supreme showman of all eight species exhibited at the fair. She is owned by Tyler Myers of Millerstown and was the winner of the 4-year-old class. The reserve champion of the open show was owned by Brian and Amy Fleisher of New port. Delaware County Posts 4-H Fair Results DELAWARE COUNTY Delaware County 4-H members celebrated their ac complishments at the annual 4-H Summer Fair, conducted Aug. 8 and 9. Eighty-six members showed livestock, participated in demonstrations of horseback riding skills, produced educational posters, exhibited homegrown vegetables, or displayed com pleted fabric or woodworking projects. 4-H Cooperative Horse Project members demonstrated riding skills during the horse show on Friday, Aug. 8. Champion in both the senior technical division and the senior speed events was Jenn Prutzer of Havertown. Champion in the junior technical division and junior speed events was Erin Collins of Newtown Square. Re serve champions in speed events were sen ior rider Neon Colasante of Newtown Square and junior rider Jessica Fennelly of Upper Darby. Reserve champions for technical riding were senior rider Xena Colasante of Newtown Square and junior rider Jessica Fennelly of Upper Darby. Twenty-eight members exhibited Laying hens. The champion White Leghorn is owned by Rebecca Averell of Boothwyn. Rebecca Ferguson of Media owns the champion Red Sex Sal Link. Adam Murphy of Unionville exhibited several blue ribbon home-raised hens. Thirteen members exhibited market hogs. The hogs weighed in be tween 165 and 262 pounds each. The champion hog was exhibited by Brian Albany of Springfield and purchased by Frank Videon of New town Square. Lisa Albany of Springfield showed the reserve champion hog. Members competed in their ability to show the hogs, grouped by age and experience. Championior showman was Brian Albany. Champion experienced junior showman was Nicole Smith of Newtown Square. Champion novice showman was Ed Beach of Fraser. Twenty-one members raised market lambs that ranged in weight from 103 to 140 pounds. The champion lamb was owned jointly by Charlie Anderson of Darby and Ryan O’Keefe of Havertown. Frank Videon purchased the champion lamb. Showmanship champions were as follows: senior Adam Murphy of Unionville; experienced junior David Kays of Havertown; novice senior Kim Pierce of Drexel Hill; novice intermediate Abby Reimold of Havertown. Eight members exhibited ewe lambs, raised as part of a breeding sheep project. Champion ewe was owned by David Kays and reserve champion was exhibited by Joshua Kays, both of Havertown. Eight members of the Garden Club exhibited vegetables. Champion senior ribbon went to Aaron Murphy of Unionville. Champion junior ribbon went to Julia Hislop of Newtown Square. Dauphin County 4-H Fair Draws Livestock, Equine Exhibitors HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) The 4-H clubs of Dauphin County conducted their annual show, Aug. 6-9, in the remodeled Farm Show Complex, Harris burg. The show took advantage of the new equine bam and equine arena as well. This year’s revised schedule al lowed each project area to show in its own separate time slot. The show kicked off Wednesday eve ning with small animal judging, which included the return of poultry to the 4-H Fair. Thursday featured swine, sheep, beef, and dairy during the day and family living and general exhibits in the evening. Friday morning the goat show was followed by the first half of the horse show. The horses concluded their show on Saturday, bringing another suc cessful 4-H Fair to a close. In total, 34 goats, 14 dairy cat tle, 34 sheep, 13 hogs, 22 beef, SO horses, 83 rabbits, 11 poultry, seven pets, and numerous cavies were shown. There were seven foods and 14 textile entries. In the general area there were a total of 13 entries. In small ani mal, there were 13 non-animal entries. Each of the four divisions of 4-H Projects concludes their shows with a competition be tween champions know as a “Clover Award.” Each of the four divisions is divided into two age brackets. To win this compe tition is to be selected as the Champion of Champions and is the highest achievement at the 4-H Fair.
