Eastern Cornbelt Direct Feeder Cattle
Summary Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and
Ohio Compared to last week. Compared to
last week, feeder cattle were mostly 1.00-2.00
higher Holstein steers were unevenly steady.
Demand was moderate but the continuing
grain harvest season slowed trading to a
standstill in some areas. The strongest de
mand is for yearling cattle but they ate be
coming increasingly harder to find. The
sharply higher slaughter cattle market and
stronger futures prices supported feeder cat
tle prices early in the week. Confirmed sales
about 36% beef type steers, 39% heifers and
25% Holstein steers. Approximately 86% of
the cattle marketed this week weighed over
600 lb. Confirmed sales!2oo this week, 1550
last week and 800 last year.
