Schrock is the 17-year-old daughter of Ronald and Michelle Schrock of Berlin and a member of Mountain Top 4-H Club. Along with her crown, Schrock Focus: or 717-626-1164 received a $l,OOO scholarship award. She plans to attend Penn State University. Competing for this year’s title were nine young women, who had an interest in fair activities. They included Amy Fullerton of Meyersdale, Rose Goodwin of Stoystown, Valerie Hay of Friedens, Kate Lynn Patter son of Stoystown, Brittney Rugg of Windber, Deidra Smith of Fairhope, Jade Wareham of Rockwood, and Kimberly Yoder of Meyer sdale. Deidra Smith, the 19-year-old daughter of Dwight and Gail Smith of Fairhope, won first runner up and a $3OO cash schol arship from Steel City Amusements. Smith also won the Speech Award and Lancaster Farming’s Dairy Plus Booklet Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 18, 2003-B9 $lOO cash award from the Som erset County Fair Board for scor ing the highest on the speech en titled “Why You Should Come to My Fair.” Amy Fullerton, the 18-year-old daughter of Jack and Darlene Fullerton of Meyersdale, won second runner-up and a $250 cash award sponsored by Animal Medical Center in Somerset. Rose Goodwin, daughter of Bill and Nancy Goodwin of Stoystown, won the Promenade Award and a $lOO savings bond from Citizen’s National Bank in Meyersdale. Jade Wareham, the 18-year-old daughter of Dennis and Nina Sue Wareham of Rock wood, won the interview award and $lOO cash from the Somerset County Fair Board for scoring the highest in the interview por tion of the contest. Ironically, Schrock suc cinctly fol lows four former Moun tain Top 4-H club members in winning the fair queen crown, in cluding 2002 LEESPORT (Berks Co.) Diabetes Extrava ganza 2003 will present the most-up-to -date in formation on diabetes for senior citizens at the Berks Co. Ag Center, Friday, Nov. 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Event speakers will address the effects of dia betes on the eye and heart and foods to eat when dining out. There will also will be diabetic supply company representatives and other exhibitors on hand to provide information.
