A36-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 18, 2003 Maryland Family Tops Swine Breeding At KILE HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) Family Farming was the theme at the Keystone Interna tional Livestock Breeding Swine Sale, Oct. 3 in the sale arena of the farm show complex. The Weber family of White hall, Maryland, exhibited and sold the Champion Yorkshire Breeding Boar and high selling animal. The Champion boar sold for $2,800. The Webers own a 25-acre farm where they breed 12 Yorkshire sows to their three boars for 4-H and FFA breeding and market projects. Owner Mike Weber has shown and sold his prize-winning swine for over 22 years at various shows throughout the state of Pennsyl vania and Maryland. Weber, along with family members in cluding wife Sarah and 15-month-old son Andrew, has also started a business selling boar semen to other breeders. He stated, “The new business helps to pay the feed bills. Without my family’s help, it simply wouldn’t happen. The animals that we are raising are what the Yorkshire industry needs.” Family farmers of 3D Stock Farms in Larwill, Indiana, also count on one another to operate Landrace breeding swine: champion gilt, Russell Whe well, Carthage, 111.
