A2B-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 11,2003 Manheim Hosts Dai CHARLENE M. SHUPP Lancaster Farming Staff MANHEIM (Lancaster Co.) 4-H and FFA members look for ward to showing their prized dairy beef and beef cattle at the Manheim Community Farm Show. With a year of time and effort invested into their projects, show day marks a payoff. For others, it is a way to get involved in the fair. For Stephanie Fiester, 20, of Manheim, she was in search of a way to become more involved. After serving as the Manheim Community Farm Show Queen, Fiester, who traditionally shows horses, found her niche by raising a dairy beef steer. “I wanted to try something dif ferent,” said Fiester, “and horses were not a part of the fair.” In her second year showing, Fiester was selected as the re serve grand champion dairy beef steer and the champion of the showmanship contest. This Manheim FFA member applied everything she learned in her first year to help her achieve her success. From choosing a larger steer to raise this year to taking pointers from her fellow showman, she worked to be bet ter prepared for this show. A junior at Penn State, Fiester plans to use her premium and pending sale earnings to pay for this year’s college expenses. Cassandra Shenk, 17, Mount Joy, was named the grand cham pion in the dairy beef show with her steer named Odis.
