Movement of ready-to-cook whole birds was
being altered by the effects of the approaching
hurricane. Offerings were adequate to closely
cleared. A shortage of trucking was noted in
some instances. Live supplies were moderate;
weights were mostly desirable. Most processor
schedules were being reduced to one shift today.
The majority of plants planned to suspend op
erations on Friday and work full schedules on
Saturday. Less than trucklot asking prices were
unchanged at 61 to 71 cents. Trade sentiment
was at least steady. In the parts complex, sup
plies were well balanced to short

In Chicago, prices advanced 1 cent on all
sizes. In New York, prices were 2 cents higher
on mediums and unchanged on the heavy
weighted eggs. Trade sentiment was steady to
firm with mediums and extra large in the
strongest position. Demand continued light to
good, best where limited features were in pro
gress. Supplies of all sizes ranged sufficient to
tight. Breaking stock offerings were barely ade
quate to adequate for the moderate to good de
mand. Light type hens were at least sufficient
for current slaughter schedules.

Trade sentiment was mostly hilly steady in
the East steady elsewhere. Food service de
mand was fair. Retail demand was mixed, but
strong in the areas targeted by Hurricane Isabel,
with retail outlets fully stocked. Supplies were
overall in balance. Processing schedules along
the East were reduced for tomorrow and Fri
day, and may resume operations on Saturday;
therefore, attempts were made to move addi
tionally product before plants closed. In the
parts structure, wings were light, particularly
heavy sizes, and moving well. Tenders were also
tight, but the remaining breast cuts were ade
quate, and dark meat was available to close. In
production areas, live supplies were moderate at
mixed, but mostly desirable weights.
NATIONAL CANNER FOWL MAR
KET; ijpajority of prices were unchanged on
both itpt and heavy canners when compared to
a week earlier. Demand ranged light to moder
ate. Trading was light to no better than fair. Of
ferings were generally sufficient for trade needs.
The undertone was mostly steady.

DOMESTIC MARKET HIGHLIGHTS; The
market tone on 8-16 lb. hens and 16-24 lb. toms
was steady to fully steady. Demand was light to
moderate. A fair volume of bens moved in the
Central Region at steady prices and in the West
a light volume of hens traded at higher trending
prices. Hens for October shipment were offered
at 65 cents. Trading light on bulk meats and
parts. Spot loads of fresh tom breast meat were
available. Supplies of most hen and tom parts
were tight.
EXPORT MARKET HIGHLIGHTS: Trad
ing was fair, centering on tom drums and tom
full cut wings. One container of defatted giz
zards moved at 53 cents delivered port. Some
buyer resistance was noted at current asking
prices.

Mostly prices were unchanged on whites and
whole, unchanged to lower on sugar yolks, and
irregular on salt yolk when compared to the
previous week's trading. Trade sentiment was
unsettled on yolks, but at least steady on bal
ance of items. Demand improved but still mod
erate. Offerings of yolks slightly more available,
balance of items reported as in close balance to
short of needs. Liquid and frozen eggs (ingredi
ents included) processed under federal inspec
tion in the Eastern region for the week ending
06 September 2003 were 13% less than the pre
vious week, and 2% less than a year ago.
