RWDCA Convention Was A Dutch Country Treat BLUE BALL (Lancaster Co.) Hosted by the Mason-Dixon Red and White Dairy Cattle Associa tion (RWDCA), the National RWDCA conducted its annual membership meeting and awards ban quet recently in Blue Ball. Ed Peck, Wisconsin, and Rob Morrill, New Hampshire, were re-elected to three year terms as directors. Mary Etta Lenkaitis, Illinois, was elected as a new director. Upon the board’s acceptance ol Kathy Cook’s resignation from the board, Jake Skinner, Pennsylvania, was appointed to fill the re maining two years of Cook’s term. Each year, the RWDCA presents the Don Al brecht Memorial Scholarship. This year’s scholar ship winner was Andrew Lenkaitis, Illinois. Lenkaitis is currently attending the University of Illinois, majoring in agricultural engineering. He has been breeding and showing registered Red and White cattle since he was nine years old and has as pirations of working as an engineer within the dairy industry, as well as owning and developing his own dairy herd. T. Edwin Johnson was honored with the Larry Moore Master Breeder Award. Johnson has estab lished the Hickorymea herd with tenacious dedica tion to the improvement of the Red and White breed and the propagation of the polled gene. John son has successfully placed numerous young sires in A.I. studs around the globe, predominantly descen dants of Hickorymea Aero Tena*RC, an 88-point Aerostar daughter who transmitted the recessive hornless gene. The 2003 J.P. Ostrander Young Breeder Award went to Scott and Beth Wilson of Ontario, Canada, in honor of their tremendous success in developing several of the most prominent Red and White cow families in the world.
