Susquebanna Co. 4-H D.E.S. Dairy Club The D.E.S. 4-H Club recently conducted two meetings one at the Elk Lake Fire Hall and the other at the Kiefer’s home. At the earlier meeting, Nick Pease called the meeting to order and Nick Mattocks and Ryan Depew led the pledges. Alyssa Sprout read the minutes from the last meeting and Treasurer Amanda Miner gave her report. Members discussed their partici pation in the March of Dimes Walk-A-Thon. At the most recent meeting after pledges were said, members discussed the Harford Fair clean up and flowerbeds. Nick Pease, Allison Kiefer and Kenny Kiefer did their demonstrations. They discussed a club picnic. Club Leader, Sue Pease handed out re cord books. The next meeting will be at the Clark Farm. The National Holstein Women’s Scholarship Organization pres ented six $1,500 scholarships at the 2003 National Junior Hol stein Convention conducted in Winston-Salem, N.C. Twenty well-qualified appli cants were interviewed and judged on their poise, knowledge of the dairy industry, and in volvement on and off the farm operation. Already it has participated in a parade and started plans for more exciting things. In the pa rade they had a banner leading them. Then, behind them they had the members of the club marching with their dogs obedi ently beside them. Each member had a shirt on that had a logo and a picture supporting the service dogs. It was quite a sight to see. The club members which are competing in Penn State’s 4-H Days dog bowl have started studying. They study during their regular meeting every Monday night and one more time during the week. Plus, they spend time at home reinforcing what they learned. Susquehanna Co. 4-H Irish Hill Shamrocks The Irish Hill Shamrocks 4-H Club recently met. There were one leader, five members, and two parents present. The club discussed One Day Camp, 4-H projects to go to the Harford Fair and community service ideas. Members also talked about their projects and gave two riflery demonstrations.
