A26-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 2, 2003 Whary Raises ‘Holly’ To Be Lebanon Fair Champion LEBANON (Lebanon Co.) It took about three years, but mem bership in the Lebanon County 4-H Goat Club finally proved fruitful for Steve Whary, Lebanon. The 12-year-old son of Stacey and Steve took grand champion goat honors at the Lebanon Area Fair Wednesday. Steve received $650 for the goat at the sale Wednesday evening. Steve, Cedar Crest Middle School 6th grader, exhibited a 76-pound doe, a Blood Boer nicknamed “Holly” to his first champion at the Lebanon Area Fair. “We cleaned her up and walked her every day,” noted Steve. Each day involved 15 minutes of exercise for the doe. Steve Dresch purchased the goat. Reserve, exhibited by Alex Werner, was purchased for $275 by the First National Bank of Fredericksburg. Bank representatives were Martin Daubert and Wilmer Stoner. Alex, 17, is the son of Sue and Jeff Wemer, Jonestown. A senior at the Northern Lebanon High School, Alex was champion at the very first goat sale at Lebanon a few years ago. He has been in 4-H 10 years. Alex exhibited a 74-pound Blood Boer wether nicknamed “Tor nado.” Alex also won grand champion FFA meat pen of rabbits and was champion rabbit showman. Alex plans to exhibit rabbits at the Farm Show.
