82-Lancaster Farming, Saturday. Junes 29, 20Q3 Out Of Many Siblings, One Dairy Princess Wears Crown ANDY ANDREWS Editor LANCASTER (Lancaster Co.) An abundance of families. You have to count the many Goods, Kauffmans, Royers, Do noughs, and Martins that are dairy maids, misses, or ambassa dors. Count the Martins in for your dairy princesses, however. The new Lancaster County Dairy Princess is the fourth child, the third girl, out of the Martin family of 13. And Carla has worn a crown before. You see, Carla Martin already served as 2002 Manheim Farm Show Queen. She found placing in the top five at the state contest “her most memorable moment,” and wearing the Lancaster Coun ty tiara ranks right up there. Carla, 18, is the daughter of Dave and Robbin Martin, Man heim. The homeschooled gradu ate plans on studying nursing at the Lebanon County Career and Technology Center. Carla joins her alternates, Karen Shaub, 16, daughter of Kirk and Shirley Shaub, and Stephanie Donough, 18, daughter of Timothy and Brenda Do nough, as the new Lancaster County dairy royalty. Carla, who grew up on a dairy, never served as dairy miss or maid. Carla conducted herself with poise and went through her skit and impromptu question with ease. Carla has a total of seven sis ters and five brothers, the oldest, 23, and the youngest, 4. Pennsylvania dairy royalty visited the Lancaster Farming office June 19 to select top dairy recipes. Choosing a winner are, from left, Ashley Chapman, alternate; Raechel Kilgore, state dairy princess; and Rachel Ebert, alternate. Photo by Dave Lefever Dairy Drawing Wraps Up June Dairy Month Once again, Lancaster Farming readers responded to the call for recipes by deluging the office with copies of favorite meal time and dessert ideas. Stacks of family-tested recipes from all over Pennsylvania and surrounding states found their way to our office to be printed for all of our subscribers to share. Although we cannot give everyone a prize, we and many of the readers who teU us that they enjoy clipping the recipes to try throughout the yea - very much appreciate the many recipes that were sent in. Be assured that if you have sent in a recipe it has probably already been clipped and perhaps also prepared and on another faimly’s table. Unfortunately, although we love to cook (and eat!) we cannot make and taste test each recipe, so we select the winners from a random drawing, thanks to help from Pennsylvania’s dairy roy alty. We would also like to thank the readers who sent in pictures and a description of the recipe, their family, or their farm. Even though our readers are very obviously busy, as they reported, they took the time to send in their favorite dairy recipe. Here are this year’s winners: 1. Betty Biehl, Mertztown 2.
