Ag Issues Luncheon
Successful
HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) Approximately 100 from
the agriculture community including farmers, industry
representatives; Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture
employees, state FFA officers, cabinet secretaries, and
legislative staff attended the first Quarterly Ag Issues
Luncheon here late last week.
At the barbecue luncheon, newly appointed FFA state
officers delivered their opening ceremonies for the first
time.
Eric Rubenstein, state FFA president, introduced Agri
culture Secretary Dennis Wolff, who spoke about the re
cord of Pennsylvania agriculture and the plan for a new
Pennsylvania.

forestry, and a variety of topics
that involve families, Thursday
to Saturday, Sept. 4-6, at Virginia
Tech’s Kentland Farm.
The annual showcase will fea
ture activities and exhibits of in
terest to those in the agricultural

Featured information will in
clude agricultural production,
business, and technology; poul
try; environmental stewardship

home landscaping, horticulture
and vegetable gardening; lawn
care; value-added food products;
birds; and bats. There will be dis
plays, demonstrations, and semi
nars.
Families may enjoy the special
events which include a cornfield
maze, an aquaculture exhibit, a
display of award-winning 4-H
projects, archery and air-nfle
ranges, egg incubation, butterfly
gardens, and an interactive fish
ing simulator.
Children can enjoy the chil
dren’s activity center. At the ac
tivity center children will learn

playground as well.
Walking and bus tours of
Kentland Farm will give partici
pants a chance to leam about the
farm and its use for teaching, re
search, and Extension. Virginia
Cooperative Extension will have
a variety of displays to give visi
tors a chance to leam about the
many educational programs of
fered throughout the Common
wealth.
Virginia Tech’s Kentland
Farm, where the event is to be
conducted, is located along the
New River a few miles west of
the Blacksburg campus.
The 1,700-acre farm is the uni
versity’s newest and largest agri
cultural research and teaching
center.
