The food is usually prepared by volunteers who sell food to raise money for fire com panies and other nonprofit organizations. A rapport of sorts often develops among regular auction-goers. Sometimes they try to outbid each other or share information. Auctions are often places frequented by those who resell items at shops or over the Internet. In Lancaster County, sales are often patronized by Amish and Mennonites. But other groups are also well represented.
