The Maryland Brown Swiss Association has always been a great supporter of the Junior Brown Swiss Association on state and national levels and this year was no exception. This year, the association recognized the 2002 Maryland 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging Team for their accomplishments. ____________ Maryland, along with the 4-H team members from Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, have been in vited to participate in an international competi tion at the Royal Highland Exposition in Edin burgh, Scotland this summer. Many different fundraising activities are presently underway to help support the 17-day trip through Scotland, England, Belgium, Germany, and Switzerland. At the recent Mid-Atlantic Brown Swiss Calf Sale, an outstanding calf from Ed Fry of Fair Hill Farm was donated with all proceeds going to support the judging team’s travels. The calf donated was Fair Hill Dom Dara. Hilltop Acres PR Dominate is number five on the Brown Swiss sire summary, and is a sire of sons in A. 1., as has sired some impressive show daughters. Another successful part of the sale is the offering of outstanding embryo packages featuring ge netics from leading cow families. There were eight embryo pack ages, consisting of three in each package. They sold for an aver age of $1,263.75. The high selling pack was three Top Acres Jet Pi lots out of Top Acres EJ Whiz zbang “4E-93,” an All-American many times as well as a National Total Performance Winner. The embryos sold for $7lO each, and went to Tom and Bonnie Rems berg, Middletown, Md. Wayne Sliker, St. Paris, Ohio was the consignor. All calves sold are automatical ly entered in the Mid-Atlantic Brown Swiss Futurity with the first payment made by the Mary land Brown Swiss Association. The tenth annual Futurity will take place Sunday, Aug. 31 dur ing the Maryland State Fair in Timonium, with Brian Garrison of Ohio doing the judging. All breeders are welcome, and ani mals are now being accepted for the 2005 Futurity.
