York Announces Dairy Promotion Candidates JOYCE BUPP York Co. Correspondent AIRVILLE (York Co.) State dairy princess Raechel Kilgore recently hosted a planning tea for what promises to be a bittersweet event, her final appearance as York County’s first lady of the dairy industry. While Raechel’s state reign continues through September, she is helping to pave the way for her successor in the county with the upcoming dairy princess coronation. Heather Baumgardner credits her experience as a dairy ambas sador for helping to prepare her for greater responsibilities in dairy promotion, as York Coun ty’s next princess. Raechel will crown Heather as her successor during the annual county dairy promotion pageant, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 24, at the 4-H Center. The daughter of Dan and Lori Baumgardner, Dillsburg, Heather is 19 and a home-study freshman student in elementary education at Liberty University. Her enjoy ment in working with early age school groups in the promotion program encouraged Heather to pursue elementary education studies. In addition to her college classes. Heather continues to work with the Baumgardner’s 60-head milking herd and related farm responsibilities. She volun teers with the release-time-pro gram students in the Northern School District’s elementary schools and is studying kickbox ing as a fun pursuit. Candidates for York County dairy ambassador, who play a significant role in assisting the princess with promotion events, are Amanda Hoover and Trisha Knight. Trisha Knight, 14, is the daughter of Paul and Jean Knight, Airville, and a freshman at Kennard Dale High School, where she plays volley ball and bas ketball. She is a member of the dairy bowl team, 4-H dairy show ing, dairy judging, and vet clubs. Candidates for York County dairy maid are Jelee Anstine, Amy Baumgardner, Stevie Greek, and Carlyn Crowl. Jelee Anstine, 11, is the daugh ter of Lynn and Charles Anstine, York. She is a sixth-grade, stu dent at Central Middle School and president of her Girl Scout troop. Ste vie had five dairy animals she shows as a member of the Milk and Money 4-H club and is looking forward to her first year assist ing on the coun ty ’ s dairy promotion events team. The three candidates for dairy miss are Katie Baum- gardner, Frank ie Greek, and Amber Thoman. Rebekah Baumgardner and Kel sey Knight are little dairy miss candidates. Katie Baumgardner, 8, is the daughter of Dan and Lori Baum gardner, Dillsburg. She is a third grade level, home-schooled stu dent and helps with calf feeding and milking the family’s 60 cows. Katie shows her Holstein calf, Misty, as a member of the Cen tral York dairy club and began helping with promotion as a little dairy miss. She likes to hand out dairy stickers and cow erasers at area fairs. Frankie Greek, 10, is the Lancaster Farming, Saturday, May 24, 2003-B5 daughter of Bonnie Jo and Leon ard Greek, Delta. Fifth-grade classes at Clearview Elementary and practicing for a June recital with her dance classes keep Frankie busy. She is also a mem ber of the Airville 4-H Milk and Money dairy club and shows her heifer at area fairs. Frankie par ticipated in the promotion pro gram a few years ago as a little dairy miss. Amber Thoman, 9, is the daughter of Gail and Gary Tho man, Dallastown. She is a third grader at Loganville-Springfield Elementary and plays soccer with the Jacobus-Loganville-Spring field community recreation. Amber shows two heifers with the Southwest 4-H dairy club and is learning dairy judging. A par ticipant in the county’s dairy promotion group since beginning as a little miss, Amber’s favorite events are the area parades. Rebekah Baumgardner, 5, is the daughter of Dan and Lori Baumgardner, Dillsburg. Rebe kah is at the kindergarten level in the family’s home-schooling studies and helps move the cows during milking chores. She re turns to the dairy promotion team as a little miss. Kelsey Knight, 6, is the daugh ter of Lisa and James Knight, Airville. Kelsey is finishing kin dergarten at the Clearview Ele mentary School and likes to help with feeding the cows and calves at the family’s dairy farm. This will be Kelsey’s first year helping with promotion as a little dairy miss.
