OKLAHOMA NATIONAL STOCK
YARDS, Weekly Cattle Summary
Compared to last week: Feeder steers and
heifers 1.00-3.00 higher. Stocker cattle
and calves firm to 4.00 higher. Demand
very good for all classes. Last week’s
movement off wheat in Oklahoma was
very active. Monday’s run more of a
mixed bag of calves, Stockers, feeders with
a few number 2 and 3 Texas crossbreds
and this an indication that the May wheat
run could be slowing. Buyers encouraged
by last week’s large slaughter and contin
ued lighter carcass weights followed by a
firm boxed beef trade. Several new crop
calves included in calf supply.
Receipts this week 11,900; last week
15,733; last year 15,583. Supply consisted
of 84% yearlings over 600 lbs; 11% calves
and light yearlings; 5% cows and bulls.
Heifers comprised 32% of feeder and calf
supply.

Kill Weeds Without
Compromising Corn Safety
There are many effective options for controlling
broadleaf weeds m emerged corn So when it comes
time to choose which postemergence herbicide to
use, consider whether a herbicide’s mode of action
will impact or compromise corn stands
Often in late May and June, corn is stressed from
rapid growth caused by warm temperatures and high
humidity Tins makes young coin plants suscepnble to
stalk-snapping from high winds associated with spring
thundei storms
Giowth-regulator herbicides that contain dtcamba -
such as Banvel, C lauty, Distinct and North Star - have
been unplicated as contributor to this problem,
known as brittle snap
Recently, Dow AgroSciences conducted field trials
to determine the effects of dicamba-based herbicides
vs clopyrahd-based herbicides - such as Hornet* WDG
herbicide - on brittle snap Stand loss in the
dicamba-based treatments ranged from 23 percent to
43 percent higher than the untreated control, while
stand counts in the areas treated with Hornet were not
statistically different than the untieated contiol
In addition to its s.ifcrs to fast-giowing torn,
Hornet WDG provides excellent control of large
seeded broadleaf weeds like common and giant
ragweed, veKetlcaf, tocklebur and sunflower To
improve control of troublesome
weeds like waterhemp,
lambsquarters or pigw eed. add
atrazine or Aim herbicide as
tank-mix pai tilers HoinetWDCi
tan be applied to corn up to 21)
inches tall or the V 6 stage of
growth w Inc bevel comes first
