The New York Beef Producers’ Association (NYBPA) is facilitating a Central Bull Testing program as a tool for evaluating and merchandis ing potential herd sires. The purpose of a Central Test ing Program is to compare indi vidual performance of potential herd sires, provide an opportuni ty for seedstock producers to market individual bulls, provide a source of bulls for commercial and seedstock herds, and provide two cabinet secretaries. They were named by Gov. Ed Rendell in January, and are in the early stages of setting policy for their respective departments. Wolff owns and operates a 700-acre, 500-head dairy farm in Columbia County, and was named a Master Farmer in 1994. He was one of the early success ful marketers of embryos interna tionally. He founded the Nicholas Wolff Foundation and Camp Victory, a nonprofit summer camp for handicapped and chronically ill children. Wolff serves as a committee member of the World Trade Organization, is on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Dairy Stakehold ers, and served as an agricultural representative on the Penn State board of trustees. Robert L. Kilgore is a native York Countian who went West in the 1950’s to seek “fame and for tune” when the cowboy bug bit him. Unfortunately fame and for tune were not found so he re turned to Pennsylvania and spent the next 40 years as a profession al horse trainer. Upon retirement, he returned to Southern Arizona to continue his love of the cowboy life on his own ranch south of Tucson. Bob has performed at numerous venues and is well known for his humorous cowboy stories and poetry. Libido, which is his desire to find and service females in heat, will not be determined, nor will semen be evaluated, as the results are in conclusive on young bulls. • Structural soundness. A herd sire is expected to travel a lot of ground to fulfill his duties in a short breeding season. Therefore bulls will be evaluated for defects in feet and leg struc ture that may inhibit their ability to service cows. As the evaluation can be subjective in nature, leav ing it open to criticism, it will be completed by an individual with no direct ties to the consignors or the NYBPA.
