LANCASTER (Lancaster Co.) The PennAg Poultry Council has announced that Sandi Patty, one of America’s favorite inspira tional singers, will be the featured entertainer at its Annual Spring Banquet, Wednesday, April 23 at the Lancaster Host Expo Center, Rt. 30 east of Lancaster. This annual event is a major fund raiser for the Poultry Coun cil. Orders for tickets and adver tising in the banquet program are being solicited from the state’s poultry producers and agribusi nesses. Tickets are $lOO per per son; a table of 10 (with company logo displayed) is $1,000; and table of 12 (with company logo displayed) is $1,200. Those who cannot attend can support the Poultry Council by buying absentee tickets for $lOO each and have their names listed in the program. Companies are being asked to consider advertising in the ban quet program and the 2003-2004 Buyer’s Guide. The advertise ment will appear in both publica tions at no additional cost. The deadline for advertisements is March 31, 2003. Penn State Poultry Science Club Best In Nation UNIVERSITY PARK (Centre Co.) The Penn State Poultry Science Club was recognized as the 2003 National Club of the Year by the United States Poul try and Egg Association (USPEA). The club also received the award for the “Best Scrap book” for the fourth consecutive year. The awards were presented at the USPEA Poultry Science Club meeting recently during the In ternational Poultry Exposition in Atlanta, Ga. Penn State’s club was selected based on an applica tion and a club activities review. The club previously has won sev eral USPEA national awards. The club processes and sells fresh and smoked turkeys at holi days to finance the members' an nual trip to the International Poultry Exposition, the world’s largest poultry trade show. It also donated turkeys to a local food bank, the United Way, a regional Boy Scouts Council, and two Proceeds from the fundraising dinner will be used to protect the interests of the Pennsylvania poultry industry and its sup pliers. Jim Shirk, assistant vice presi dent of the Penn Ag Industries Association and executive direc tor of the Poultry Council, said in time of crisis such as battling avian disease, effective commu nication and advocacy for the poultry industry and its suppliers has never been more important. Funds from the banquet, he noted, will help to strengthen the Poultry Council’s alliance with the PennAg Industry Association, the leading voice and watchdog for agribusiness in Pennsylvania. The club raised money for the Penn State Dance Mara thon, a cancer research and sup port charity that is the largest student-run fund-raiser in the na tion.
