is possibly referring to
what is known as “Lutz’
Greenleaf” or as the “Win
terkeeper” red beets. If
harvested about 55-60
days, it will produce a beet
of normal size. If allowed to
remain in the ground for
about 80 days, and has
been thinned to allow
growth, it will produce a
hugh red beet, which is still
very tender, sweet, and
dark red. The reader has a
seed store in Winterstown
called Hake’s Farm and
