On March 17, many people dress in
green and have parties. Why? Because it's
St. Patrick's Day, a celebration of an Irish
saint. St Patrick was born around 389 A D.,
and he worked hard to strengthen the
Christian Church in Ireland His feast day
is on March 17.

On St Patrick's. Day, many people celebrate
by wearing green This, is because another
name for Ireland is. " The Emerald Isle."
Shamrocks are a gieen plant that's associated
with Ireland, so many people wear
shamrocks or pictures of them They may
also eat special foods like corned beef and
potatoes. Some grownups drink Irish beer
Many people sing songs or dance. Some cities
have parades, too

Johann Sebastian Bach was one of the greatest
composers m history. He was born on March 21,
1685, in Germany. He created many musical works
both tor church and for everyday. His church
music is still used in some churches.
Bach was born into a family of musicians His
parents died when he was nine years old. He then
went to live with his brother, an organist, and
learned to play and write his own music In 1703,
at the age of about 18, Bach accepted a job in an
orchestra Six months later, he became a church
organist. Bach held a variety of jobs in churches
throughout his life. I le was difficult to work with,
and in one case, he angered the church people he
worked for so much that they threw him in jail for
a month 1
Bach was married twice and had 20 children!
Several of his sons also became well-known
composeis Bach died in Leipzig, Germany, on
July 28,1750
