Dairy Farms And Phosphorus Regulations Workshop Set CHAMBERSBURG (Franklin Co.) —Penn State Dairy Alliance and PEACCE will conduct a Dairy- PR workshop in Franklin County on Feb. 26. In this instance, PR does not stand for public relations, but rather phosphorus regulations. The objective of this program is to answer a very simple question: “What do I need to know about phosphorus?” The answers to this question will encompass issues related to the environment, regulations, fi nancial assistance, dairy cattle nutrition, and agron omy. The target audience is anyone who wants to receive more information about how phosphorus regulations will impact their business and the op tions available to deal with the regulations being enforced. This includes the feed industry, veterinar ians, producers, agronomists, and conservation spe cialists. The program is meant to supply very practical and applied information about phos phorus and regulations. PEACCE, or Pennsylvania Environmental Agri cultural Conservation Certification of Excellence, is a proactive program promoting environmentally safe agricultural practices among livestock produc ers. Alyssa Dodd, Penn State specialist in agricultural environmental policy, will cover the main regula tory issues that are the most important to dairy op erations. She will also provide information related to the new CAFO regulations. Roy Richardson from the Pennsylvania Depart ment of Agriculture will discuss the financial assist ance available to producers. In the afternoon, Jennifer Weld from USDA ARS and Virginia Ishler will work through an ex ample herd demonstrating the impact phosphorus nutrition has on the phosphorus index. The program is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse Restaurant, Chambersburg. The registration fee is $lO per person. Make checks payable to Penn State.
