Northeast Uniform Price For November
BOSTON, Mass. Erik F.
Rasmussen, market administrator
for the Northeast Federal Milk
Marketing Order, has announced
that the statistical uniform price
(SUP) paid by milk dealers (han
dlers) regulated under the North
east Order during November 2002
is $12.31 per hundredweight
($1.06 per gallon) for milk deliv
ered to plants located in Suffolk
County, Mass. (Boston). The pro
ducer price differential (PPD)
portion of the SUP for November
is $2.47 per hundredweight for
milk delivered to plants located in
Suffolk County, Mass. The PPD
($2.47) combined with the corre
sponding month’s Class 111 price
($9.84) equals the SUP ($12.31)
The SUP represents a bench
mark minimum price paid to
dairy farmers, prior to allowable
deductions, for farm milk con
taining of 3.5 percent butterfat,
2.99 percent protein, and 5.69
percent other solids. The actual
price received by an individual
dairy farmer will vary as the com
position of a farm’s milk differs
from the component benchmarks.

The PPD represents each produc
er’s share of the value generated
by the marketwide pool. The PPD
is added to the payment produc
ers receive for their milk’s compo
nents and is adjusted for the loca
tion of the receiving plant(s). The
SUP and PPD decrease by sched
uled amounts the further away
the plant(s) receiving the produc
ers' milk are from Suffolk Coun
ty, Mass. (Boston).
The Class prices for milk pool
ed in November are as follows:
Class I, $13.85 (Suffolk County,
Mass.); Class 11, $11.26; Class 111,
$9.84; and Class IV, $10.58. Com
parable prices for November 2001
were: Class 1, $19.01; Class 11,
12.78; Class 111, $11.31; and Class
IV, $11.97.
Milk receipts from producers
totaled 1.971 billion pounds.
Class I utilization was 47.2 per
cent of producer milk receipts.
