CATTLE Compared to Thursday, lean slaughter
cows sold 50*100 higher, with Breaking and Boning
lows trading firm to as much as 1 00 higher Buyer at
tendance and activity was good for the early week run
The only weakness noted in the sale was on a string of
fed cows, which sold from 26 75-30 25, as buyers had
very little interest in owning the fleshy group The
quality of the supply was made up of some better quali
ty fleshier cows, with the lean cow run comprised of
mostly average quality stock On a fairly good run of
slaughter bulls, prices trended 2 00-3 00 higher due to
very good buyer interest
Slaughter cows made up nearly 60 percent of the
run

CALVES Compared to Thursday, veal calves sold
steady to 5 00 higher on a light run. Holstein bull
calves returning to the farm sold sharply higher as
once again prices are brushing up against the 130.00
mark. Buyer interest was very good on the higher qual
ity bulls, and about moderate on the plainer supply.
Holstein heifers trended with a firmer undertone, al
though the run was very light There have not been
enough large slaughter calves lately to fully test the
market.

CATTLE: Compared to Thursday, slaughter steers
sold steady to weak. The quality of the run was aver
age to plain, with not nearly the amount of fancy steers
that usually make their way through the ring. Bidding
was only moderate due to the quality, although very
active when a higher quality steer would come through
the door. Buyers did not seem to get very involved in
Tuesday’s run and prices were affected due to the light
interest The direct feed yards out West moved their
low Choice steers at mostly 69.00 late last week, which
would now be considered a slight premium to the local
trade. A very light run of Holstein steers sold with a
weaker undertone, with not enough slaughter heifers
for a market test A fairly good run of daughter cows
sold steady to firm. Fleshier cows were in fairly short
supply, although the demand for good Breaking cows
was definitely there The run consisted of primarily
lean cows, and buyers had there work cut out for them
as they sorted through the various qualities. Slaughter
bulls were in very light supply, and sold with a weaker
undertone on the very light test The supply included
47 percent steers, 9 percent heifers, 41 percent cows, 2
percent bulls, with the balance feeders. Note* Due to
the Veterans Day Holiday on Monday, the Vintage
slaughter cattle sale was not covered. Therefore, prices
quoted in this report are on Tuesdays supply only.

CALVES: Compared to last Tuesday, veal calves
sold steady to firm on a good run and buyer Interest.
Holstein bull calves suitable for special-fed veal bams
sold shandy higher in very active bidding. Prices on
the 95-125 lb bull supply in die graded sale were quick
to break the 130.00 barrier, and not long after that the
145.00 mark For several weeks in a row, Holstein heif
ers have traded lower after their brothers sold higher.
Heifer prices continue to struggle to keep above the
400.00 mark, as die cold rains seemed to have cooled
off the bullish attitudes Heifer buyer 4 exhibited only a
few short months ago. The supply included 622 head in
the state graded sale, with around 87 percent of the
graded supply returned to feed.

CATTLE: Compared to Tuesday, slaughter steers
sold 1.00 to moedy 2.00 higher; with instances of 3.00
higher. The sale kicked off with several high dresring
Charolais cross steers, which sold from 70.00-72.75,
which really got the good crowd that was on hand and
the buyers involved in the sale; and it warn 4 ! long after
that when the bulk of the Choice steers were trading in
the 70.00 range with the high dressers trading up to
74.00. Bidding was very active as buyers welcomed
both the increase in quality and the increase in re
ceipts; as this weeks 4 run Included nearly 200 head
more than last weeks 4 . Buyers were also very interested
In procuring steers that weighed from 1000-1200 lbs to
go back on feed. Granted, a few of these lighter steers
may have graded Select, but give them a couple more
