DAVE LEFEVER Lancaster Farming Staff LAMPETER (Lancaster Co.) 4-H and FFA youth earned good money on a total of 161 beef cattle, hogs, and lambs they ex hibited and sold at the West Lampeter Community Fair. Andy Hughes, Lancaster, earned a West Lampeter Com munity Fair record hog price of $2,000 for his 4-H grand champi on 266-pounder. The market hog was purchased by Pork Quality Assurance Partners and Friends of 4-H, a group that includes Lei dys, Inc., Souderton; Hatfield Quality Meats, Hatfield; Good’s Livestock, Inc., Denver; White Oak Mills, Elizabethtown; Stoltz fus Meats, Intercourse; and Sinon Ice Cream. Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Hughes, an Bth-grader at Mar tin Meylin Middle School, plans to make contributions from the proceeds toward a new wash rack for hogs on the West Lampeter Community Fair grounds, the Lancaster County 4-H livestock judging team travel fund, and the Lancaster County 4-H schol arship fund. Tiffany Dean’s champion 4-H beef brought $3,000, topping the youth livestock sale on Friday evening, Sept. 27. The 1,298-pound steer was purchased by Hoss’s Steak and Seahouse. Dean, of Strasburg, also exhibi ted the champion 4-H lamb, bought by Engle Publishing of Mount Joy for $BOO. The lamb weighed 132 pounds. Dean also led several market hogs and an other lamb into the auction ring. Brittanni Murry, Millersville, received $2,700 for her champion FFA steer, a 1,350 pounder bought by Strasburg Market Bas ket. Top FFA market hog, shown by Garrett Neff, Millersville, went to Star Rock Farms for $l,OOO. Dana Carville, Millersville, had the champion FFA market lamb. E.M. Herr was the final bidder at $550.
