As Tropical Storm Isidore rolled up the East Coast, even the Bloomsburg Fair Sale late last week was drenched with rain yet overcome with some great bids. During an almost constant downpour, Justin Knoebel, Elys burg, exhibited a 1,262-pound grand champion market steer, a Maine-Anjou purebred, which sold for $2.60 per pound to L & K Mills, Stillwater, represented by Rich Litwhiler. Justin, 13, is the son of Dan and Denise Knoebel. This is his first grand champion at Blooms burg. Justin is in the seventh grade at Southern Columbia Middle School. Justin’s brother Joel, 19, exhib ited his first-ever champion, the reserve, also a purebred Maine- Anjou. The steer, weighing 1,090 pounds, sold for $1.40 a pound to Boss’s Steak and Sea House, Shamokin Dam, represented by Len Hummel. The grand champion hog ex hibited by Corey Williamson, Cogan Station, weighed 260 pounds. The hog sold for $2.35 per pound to Hoss’s Steak and Sea House, represented by Len Hummel, Shamokin Dam. Corey, 19, is the son of Russ and Cindy Williamson, Cogan Station. Corey was graduated from Jersey Shore Area High School. This was his second Bloomsburg Fair championship. He exhibited the heavyweight champion, a Yorkshire crossbred named “Dave,” named in honor of Dave Smith, whom he bought it from, in Oval. Corey has exhibited at Lycom ing County Fair and plans to show at Farm Show. Reserve champion hog, exhibi ted by Jeff Longenberger, Bloomsburg, weighing 253 pounds, sold for $l.lO per pound to Terry Zeisloft, Zeisloft Farm Equipment, Jersey Town. Jeff, 14, is the son of Louise and Scott Longenberger, Blooms burg. Jeff, in the ninth grade at Bloomsburg High School, noted this is his first champion. He pur chased the Yorkshire crossbred at auction. Grand champion lamb, exhibi ted by Colby Williamson, Cogan Station, weighed 129 pounds and sold for $4 per pound to John Fritz of Sunset Ice Cream, Wil liamsport. Reserve champion lamb, weighing 103 pounds and exhibited by Jordan Schrock, Bloomsburg, sold for $3.30 per pound, also to Fritz of Sunset Ice Cream. Colby, 13, is the son of Russ and Cindy Williamson, Cogan Station. He’s in the eighth grade at Jersey Shore Middle School and exhibited his Suffolk/ Hampshire crossbred wether named “Chuck.” This is his first champion at Bloomsburg and he intends to exhibit at Lycoming County Fair and Farm Show. Jordan Schrock, Bloomsburg, exhibited the reserve. Jordan, 12, is the daughter of Janie and Roger Schrock, Bloomsburg. She’s in the seventh grade at Millville Middle School. Jordan said she won champion last year. She exhibited her purebred Suf folk homebred ewe. Jordan plans to show at the Montour-DeLong Fair. Harold Fraley, Muncy, was auctioneer. There were 11 steers, 37 hogs, and 67 lambs at the sale.
