It has been a frustrating summer for me. I’ve had no gar den to keep me busy as the ani mals ate all of it. And, my hus band has not been well enough to do his regular work. He had an operation sched uled but it was cancelled just hours before we were to leave home. Now it is re scheduled and we are hoping for some good results. Our youngest daughter, who lives in Maine, had driven here with her little boy to be a support per son. It was a disappointing time. Recently, I attended a grandson’s soccer game. Probably, no one else at the game had the same thoughts as I did but it Compost Workshop SAYRE (Bradford Co.) Penn State Coopera tive Extension in Bradford County and the De partment of Environmental Protection (DEP) will present a composting workshop on Saturday, Oc tober 26, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Patterson Building, Guthrie Square in Sayre. I i seemed like so much wasted en ergy. The little boys ran from one end of the large field to the other and really wore themselves out. They were dripping with perspi ration. Just think how much work all of that energy could have accomplished. When I went along to a large store devoted entirely to toys, I had an eye-opener. So many toys I’ve never seen in my lifetime. There were all kinds of dolls, all kinds of stuffed animals, all kinds of books, all kinds of puz zles and mechanical toys too. I was surprised to see wooden puzzles. My children had card board pieces in their puzzles. But, when 1 was small my grand mother bought a box with three “dissected animals” for me. The horse, sheep and duck were on heavy wooden pieces and I still have them in the original box. Now eight decades later they are being produced again. 1 also have the handmade Peter Rabbit that a great aunt made. My sis ters and I had very few toys and the ones we had were simple handmade ones but we survived. The first 125 partici pants who pre-register and do attend the work shop will receive a free $75 Earth Machine com post bin provided by DEP. To pre-register, call Bradford County Coop erative Extension at (570)265-2896. T S £ , 2002-B7
