    FFA Members Go For The Gold
UNIVERSITY PARK (Centre Co.) Competing for gold, silver
and bronze medals, more than 1300 Pennsylvania FFA members par
ticipated in FFA Activities Week at Penn State University in June.
In addition to their gold medals, many top individual winners and
the first place team winners also received monetary awards to com
pete at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky., in October.
Other high placing individuals and second place team members
won trips to the Eastern States Exhibition (The Big E) in Springfield,
Mass., in September.
The Career Development Events (CDE) included Dairy Foods,
Dairy Cattle Judging, Poultry Evaluation, Meats Judging, Livestock
Judging, Wildlife, Speaking contests. Floriculture, Horse Evaluations,
Agriculture Mechanics, Forestry, and more.
In alphabetical order, the following IS chapters won gold chapter
awards and were recommended to go to the National FFA Conven
tion in Louisville: Big Spring, Cumberland Co.; Brothersvalley, Som
erset Co.; Cedar Crest, Lebanon Co.; Conococheague-James Buchan
an, Franklin Co.; Cumberland Valley, Cumberland Co.; Grassland
(Garden Spot H.S.), Lancaster Co.; Hans Herr (Lancaster Mennonite
H.S.), Lancaster Co.; Manheim, Lancaster Co.; Manor (Penn Manor
H.S.), Lancaster Co.; Middleburg, Snyder Co.; Selinsgrove, Snyder
Co.; Spud Growers (Coudersport Area H.S.), Potter Co.; Twin Valley,
Berks Co.; and West'Snyder, Snyder Co.
