Trade sentiment was mixed, but overall
ranged about steady to weak. Retail de
mand was slow to fair with first of the
month movement disappointing, but
hopes to improve towards the end of the
week. Food service was fair to moderate.
Supplies of all sizes were at least adequate
with heavier weights occasionally long. In
the parts structure, trading was light and
selective with regular commitments
usually sufficient to handle needs. Avail
ability was adequate to ample with wings
and leg items more available and often
discounted. In production areas, live sup
plies were moderate. Weights were mostly
desirable to at times heavier.
The 12-City Weighted Average Price
for 04/01/02 was 52.95, compared to 54.18
last week, and 57.91 a year ago.

DOMESTIC MARKET HIGH
LIGHTS: The market tone on whole body
hens and toms was steady to barely
steady. Offerings adequate for trade
needs. Demand remains slow as buyers
remain cautious and selective. Bulk parts
and meats supplies uneven. Demand light
at best. Trading centered on light volumes
of frozen destrapped tenderloins.
EXPORT MARKET HIGHLIGHTS:
Trading and demand light to instances
moderate. Trading centered on frozen
thigh meat, tom drums and frozen me
chanically separated turkey. Most indus
try members watching the progress of the
proposed lifting of the ban on poultry to
Russia.
