D2-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 2,2002 John Deere Introduces New Tracking System LENEXA, Kan. Last year, John Deere introduced Green- Star® parallel tracking, a special guidance system to help opera tors navigate their machinery down a straight path through the field. Using the Star Fire " position receiver and GPS technology, a Green Star display unit shows the operator his exact position in the field relative to a straight path that is determined with a first pass. "This new tracking system has been very well accepted in the marketplace," says Steve Robisky, product manager from John Deere ag management so lutions. "It allows an operator to maximize machinery perform ance by reducing overlap of tilled or sprayed areas. Time and money is saved by improv ing the accuracy ot tractor or sprayer passes through the field.” The older system had its drawbacks; it could not navigate around contours and it could not operate with the government-sponsored WAAS differential correction system. Beginning March 1, a new en hanced version of parallel track ing will be available to guide an operator in contour conditions. The guidance package records every pass driven and has the POUND, Wis. The RowFinoer mode is designed for standing row-crop applications, and guides the operator into the cor rect row after each pass. The system helps make the task of counting rows much easier. The Straight Track mode guides an operator along straight, parallel paths, and draws parallel lines on either side of the track. The final mode is the new Contour system, and this allows the operator to navigate in con tour field conditions. The new enhancements offer customers a flexible system to meet all their operational needs. All three modes of operation will operate with any one of three signals that the Star Fire position receiver is capable of re ceiving including WAAS, which is the government-sponsored differential correction.
