West Snyder FFA Wins SUN Area Judging Events The SUN Area FFA dairy and livestock judging and tractor driving career development events took place Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Beaver Community Fair. The West Snyder FFA live stock Judging team won the top honors by judging market steers, hogs, lambs, and breeding sheep. Oral reasons were given on the market hogs and steers. In the livestock judging event, Derek Fetterolf, Lance Herman, and Hannah Etzler placed first, third, and fourth respectively. This first place team, along with Spencer Etzler, earned blue rib bons in the event for West Snyd er FFA. Doug Hollenbach earned a red ribbon in the event and Jessica Kessler earned a white ribbon. Zerby Livestock Farm sponsored trophies for the top team and in dividual, which were captured by West Snyder FFA. In the dairy judging event, contestants judged two classes of Holsteins and two classes of Jer sey cows and calves. FFA mem bers also gave oral reasons on the Holstein cow class. Amanda Shaffer placed fourth in the event with a blue ribbon. Other blue ribbon winners from West Snyd er FFA included Daphne Wagner and Chuck Kessler. Phaedra Wray earned a red ribbon while Laura Knepp and Steve Yaka mook earned white ribbons. In the tractor driving event, students backed a four-wheeled wagon into an area that was four-inches wider than the wagon. They also took a written test and demonstrated tractor maintenance proficiency. Jeremy Waite placed fourth and earned a red ribbon for West Snyder FFA while Andrew Kreamer placed fifth with a white ribbon. FFA —/Jeal. FFA makes m fIGdL FFA Leadership Training Conducted At Lebanon-Schuylkill Meeting Recently, the Lebanon-Schuyl kill FFA joined to take part in a leadership training conference at Elco High School. The Lebanon County officers started the evening with ice breakers games that helped members to get to know one an other better. The Pennsylvania State FFA officers attended the conference and helped with ice breakers and presented greetings from the Pennsylvania FFA As sociation. After the evening meal pro vided by the Elco cafeteria staff, the Greenhand Quiz contest took place. The Quiz contest is a spell ing bee style contest where first year FFA members are asked questions about the FFA. The top four placings were as follows: Kevin Kreider, Cedar Crest, first; Mark Balmer, Cedar Crest, second; Emily Whitmoyer, Northern Lebanon, third; and Janelle Zimmerman, Cedar Crest, fourth. Prizes and money awards were given out to the winners. After the Quiz contest, they split into four groups and partici pated in leadership sessions with Lebanon County and State FFA officers. Livestock Banquet “Through everyone’s help and Members of the Blair County Youth Livestock Clubs conducted their annual banquet Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Martinsburg Me morial Park. Diana Bigelow gave the wel come and invocation; Nick Bur ket and David Bigelow led the Pledge of Allegiance; and Zack Biddle led the 4-H Pledge. Tracy Bigelow read the names of the 4-H and FFA members, and Rita Wise-Favinger and Sarah Dell read the names of the buyers who purchased animals at the sale in August. Wade Pearson read the names of the sponsors who do nated for the purchase of tro phies. Diana Bigelow reminded all the buyers and sponsors how im portant they are to the 4-H pro gram.
