Ida’s Notebook Ida Risser We’ve just had our second kill ing frost. All of our pretty flowers are dead but due to having guests this past weekend, I do have three very pretty bouquets in the house. The pink, red, and white roses are beautiful in a green vase. No more delicious red toma toes, but I did pick some green ones and hope they’ll ripen. There are still lots of tiny cabbage heads growing where I cut off the large head. This year again I have frozen cole slaw which tastes so good in the wintertime. I’ve moved some houseplants from outside and brought all the squash and pumpkins from the garden. Now I’ll move our sum mer clothes from one closet to an other. It is a sign of changing sea sons. I remember when my parents took their children to see the parade each fall in New Hol land. My husband has been trying to remove some stumps from the edge of a field. Some are sawed off and some are burned. It takes a long time to bum a stump down to the ground. Now we can farm over and not around the stumps. As our son has a full-time job off the farm, he works in the fields early in the morning and late at night. The tractor lights bounce up and down as I see him discing ground to plant rye. He works very hard and so does his wife as they board many heifers for other folks. People bring their animals from all parts of the state. This work plus the sports activities of their three children keep them too busy. Susquehanna County 4-H’ers Compete At Pa. Junior Dairy Show HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)
