Carlyn New England 4-H’ers Exhibit Dairy Cattle At Big E WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. 4-H’ers from around New England converged on The Big E to compete in the 4-H Dairy Weekend. In addition to competing in the cattle show, they participated in contests and showmanship competitions. Almost 170 youngsters spent three days at The Big E in the variety of events. Nicholas Ridley, 14, of Sha pleigh, Maine, captured the top honors in the Ayrshire show, with RV Willy Jill, first place 3- year-old cow and senior cham pion as well. Reserve grand champion honors went to DSV Willy Senta, owned by Kevin Before, 18, of Newport, Vt. She was the second place 3-year-old cow. Junior champion honors were awarded to Kelly Burne, 18, of Wakefield, R.I. with her fall calf Sweet Pepper Black Hadley. Reserve junior cham pion honors went to Wilshore Festus Ho-Ho, owned by Jeanie Graffam, 17, of Falmouth, Maine. In the Brown Swiss show, Beth Dahl, 14, of Swanzey, N.H., captured the junior cham pion trophy with Kelly-View Coll Jade, and in an unusual move, Judge Chris Hill of Mary land named her grand cham pion as well. Chris Majoy, 13, of Winchester, N.H., took home the reserve junior champion trophy with Kelly-View Prose Maria. Senior champion honors went to Yawnoc Dotson Lori, owned by Seth Conway, 15, of Jefferson, N.H. Reserve senior champion was N&N Monson Pauline, owned by Joseph Brodmerkie, 16, of Barre, Mass. At the conclusion of the Guernsey show, it was Emily Everett, 14, of Williamsburg, Mass, with her cow Hemenway Hill Logic Sparkle who took home the senior and grand champion honors. Daniel Stin son, 19, of Bowdoin, Maine, cap tured the reserve senior champion and reserve grand champion trophy with Smalls Dairy’s Peaches & Cream. Junior champion honors went to Natalie Keene, 16, of Auburne, Maine, with her Dirigo Fred Cheyenne-ET. In the Jersey show, Amy Maxham, 13, of South Hero, Vt. exhibited the senior champion and also the grand champion with Lesters Reva of Stabrook Mitzi. Karin Gage, 17, of Farmington, Maine, won the reserve junior cham pion trophy with Sandy River Margo.
