Ken Brubaker, Wo melsdorf auctioneer, breeder of Angus cattle and commercial sheep and also the coach of the Berks County 4-H judging team judged the livestock at the North ampton County 4-H Community Roundup at the Northampton County 4-H Center recently. In the showmanship and fit ting portion of the swine show, Brubaker selected senior show man Nicole Kondzieia, Bath, as the champion fitter with beginner Joe Hunsicker, also of Bath, tak ing reserve fitter honors. Senior member Joel Geiger, Danielsville, was named the champion showman with Matt Hafner, Northampton, being se lected as the reserve showman. Hafner first won the intermediate showman class. Brubaker later selected the Blue-butt 248-pound hog of Sarah Geiger, Danielsville, as the champion market swine. This is Geiger’s last year of 4-H and she is starting her second year at Dr. Herr DEANNA CUNFER Carbon Co. Correspondent PALMERTON (Carbon Co.) Dr. Robert Herr, Narvon, order buyer for meat goats and sheep and breeder of Boer goats and Dorset sheep, judged the 4-H market and 4-H and open dairy goat show at the Carbon County Fair last week. For his champion fitter in the 4-H market goat competition, Herr selected Josh Kemmerer, 17, of Franklin Township, winner of the senior fitting class. Ashley Barry, 15, of East Penn Town ship, intermediate fitter, was then selected as the reserve champion fitter. The champion showman of the market goat show title went to senior showman Amanda Mill er, 16, also of East Penn Town ship, with intermediate showman Rebecca Cunfer, 13, of Mahoning Township, taking reserve cham pion showman honors. In the market goat competi tion, described by Herr as being the fastest-growing youth project, he selected the 86-pound winner of the heavyweight class owned by Kemmerer as his grand cham pion market goat. Herr described “Brownie,” a Boer Nubian cross, as the most complete of the competition with great length of hind saddle and lots of cushion to the leg and thickness to the foreleg. The 75-pound entry of Miller, a Boer Nubian cross named Splotches also from the heavyweight class received the reserve market goat title. During the annual 4-H live stock sale conducted later that week Kemmerer’s grand champi on‘market goat was sold to Big Creek Farms, Lehighton, for $350. Marie’s Lunch, Hometown, was the successful bidder at $220 for the reserve champion of Mill er. In the dairy goat show Kem merer repeated as champion fit ter with intermediate Sarah Mill er, 12, being selected as the champion showman. Reserve champion fitter honors went to Andrew Miller, 14, with Kem merer taking the reserve champi on showman title. Herr selected Andrew Miller’s Peach Valley Knight’s Chaleece, a March 1998 daughter of Aspen Hill’s Black Knight and Peach Valley V & C Cameo, as his La- Mancha best of breed. The junior doe also belonging to Miller, Penn State, University Park, ma joring in animal science. The 245-pound hog of first year mem ber Diane Petraitus, Bath, was named the reserve market swine of the show. Petraitus, 17, is a re cent graduate of Northampton school district and will be attend ing Delaware Valley College this fall majoring in the animal sci ence pre-vet program. In the beef show, Brubaker se lected senior member Jennifer Hower, Bethlehem, as his cham pion fitter and champion show man. Hower went on to capture the champion and reserve market steer awards with her entries from the heavyweight class. Hower’s steer, Sunrise Sunny, captured the champion market steer title for her with her home bred steer, Shiloh, taking the re serve market steer honors. Hickory Nut Farm AJ Coco, the May 2000 daughter of Altrece Fire in the Night and the best of breed doe took reserve best of breed honors in the LaMancha competition. The Nubian best of breed title went to Sarah Miller’s champion junior doe, Jasperhollow Jarrett Diva, the May 2001 daughter of Jasperhollow Maestro Jarrett and Jasperhollow Maestro Aria. Miller’s reserve junior champion doe, Jasperhollow Jarrett Mink, a twin of the best of breed doe was named the reserve best of breed in the Nubian competition. In the Recorded Grade compe tition Kemmerer’s senior cham pion doe, Peach Valley Tenacious Tabitha, a March 1998 daughter of Stump Hollow T + J Kokopelli and Peach Valley Tiny Teardrop, was named best of breed. Kem merer’s Evergreen BLS Gabriella, a June 1998 daughter of GCH Starfires WBB Apollo and Kid ding Hills DD Snow Angel, cap tured the reserve best of breed title.
