Two novice 4-H’ers in dairy beef competition claimed the coveted champion and re serve titles at the*4-H Fair last week From 36 entries, Jenna Hersh berger, 10, and Thunder claimed the grand champion title. Jenna, daughter of Dan and Gayle Hershberger who own a dairy farm in Quarryville, spent a lot of time with the 5-month-old steer that weighed 500 pounds. Brian Nolt, 11, showed the re serve dairy beef. He said his brother entered a dairy beef in last year’s competition, and it looked like fun, so he decided to enter this year. He is the son of Dale and Sandy Nolt, Manheim. Of the event, Brian said, “He (steer) did not want to move in the ring, but I lifted his tail and then he went.” In beef competition, Lin ford Hershey earns show manship honors. Brian Nolt shows the re serve grand champion dairy beef. Judge Scott Wright, Dolyes town, said overall it was a good show with great kids. Linford Hershey was one of the outstand ing 4-H’ers who took top show manship honors.
