Hitting Carcass Targets
DENTON, Texas The Red
Angus Feeder Calf Certification
Program (FCCP) realizes the
power that alliances and partner
ships can create.
The FCCP was designed to
help each segment communicate,
and efficiently produce a product
that meets these consumer de
mands. Backed by a USDA pro
seedstock producer, the feedlot
industry, and the packer, Con-
Agra.
In addition to opening the
communication flow between the
segments, producers will receive
valuable selection and manage
ment information as well as mar
keting recommendations for fu
ture calf crops. Individual
carcass and feedlot information
will also be obtained. Once pro
ducers receive the information,
Charolais Gene Net representa
tives will be available to analyze
the information and discuss the
results with cattlemen.
For cattlemen who aren’t in
terested in retaining ownership
through the feedlot stage of pro
duction, Charolais Gene Net of-
cess verified system for source
and genetically identified cattle,
the FCCP offers options for feed
er or fed cattle that are “certi
fied” as Red Angus.
A great deal of effort has been
dedicated to making the FCCP a
leader in this arena, and signifi
cant consideration has been
given to selecting partners who
share the same objectives, philos
ophies, and concerns.
With this goal in mind, Excel
Corporation and the FCCP have
partnered for close to three years.
The emphasis is to provide pro
ducers and feeders an avenue to
market Certified Red Angus cat
tle, get rewarded for value, and
supply branded beef premium
programs.
In January, the Red Angus
Marketing Agreement that Excel
offers for tagged Red Angus cat
tle was re-negotiated. This revi
sion provides a considerable in
crease in carcass value over the
base price when compared to the
previous Red Angus Marketing
Agreement. Further analysis also
shows that it will do a better job
pricing cattle when compared to
