Thirty-seven West Snyder FFA members submitted project books for a total of 63 enter prises. In the final ribbon count, West Snyder FFA members earned 33 blue ribbons, 23 red ribbons, and seven white ribbons. West Snyder FFA Aids Ronald McDonald House The West Snyder FFA Chap ter collected about 1,300 food items worth an estimated $835 and donated $6B to the Snyder County Farm Bureau, which in turn made the donation to the Ronald McDonald House in Danville. The food drive was conducted Jan. 22 to Feb. 1 in cooperation with the Snyder County Farm Bureau and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau National Food Checkout Day Program. Along with the members of the West Snyder FFA Chapter, do nations were made by West Snyder High School students. Local businesses who also made donations included Tom’s Mar ket in Beavertown, Beaver Mo tors, and Saylors Market in Bea ver Springs. At West Snyder High School, the senior class had the largest Stutzman is head of the main tenance department in the Ber- Un-BrothcrsvaUey School District and has shown himself an asset to the chapter as a handyman in the agriculture education depart ment, as well as a role model who, as needed, quietly repairs and fixes things. As former owner and operator of the 219 Dairy Supply, Stutz man, also, has completed educa tional courses in milking, feed ing, and milk cooling systems. In the United States Air Force, he was trained in basic and naviga tional systems electronics. Stutz man is a member of the Berlin Lions Club. His wife is Bernadette and his children are Wendy, Bradley and Katie. The guests were treated to a performance by the demonstra tion team of Lacey Coleman, Jenny Fisher and Lance Bittner exhibiting their gold medal, state first place demonstration on Farm Safety. Entitled “Better Safe Than Sony,” the presenta tion also was second in state over-all competition. Lacey Coleman, daughter of Phillip and Lee Ann Coleman of Salco Road, Berlin, reported on chapter activities and received the Chapter Sweetheart Award, presented by committee chair person, Jeannette Fisher. Phillip and Lee Ann Coleman also received the Special Parents Citation. They won a pizza party sponsored by the West Snyder FFA Chapter. The faculty and staff donated 199 food items. The ninth grade class placed third by donating 177 food items. Feb. 7 served as National Food Checkout Day. Food Checkout Day was established to em phasize the affordability of food in America. Statistics show that between Jan. 1 and Feb. 7, the average American family earns enough money to feed their fami ly for the entire year. The donation toward the Ron ald McDonald House was select ed by the Pennsylvania Farm Bu reau. The Ronald McDonald House was selected because it serves as a “home away from home” for families of children who are critically ill. American FFA Degree plaques were presented to Desirae D. Hillegass, daughter of Douglas and Debra Hillegass of Glades Pike, Berlin and to Bruce Hart man, son of Dale and Dorothy Hartman, Emerick Road, Glen coe. In the One-acre Com Growing Contest (130 -230 bushels erf shelled com per acre), starting in sequence from first: Justin Hille gas , Rebekah Fox, Kyle Hille gas, Jared Hillegass, Joe Knotts, Sam Weimer, and Luke Homing. Gold medals were presented to the FFA Farm Safety and Health Quiz Bowl Team of Matthew Webreck, Stephanie Hartman, David Bittner, and Jared Hille gass, for being first in the state $6OO was the award. Gold medals were presented, to the The Parliamentary Prdce-' Q4-H HAPPENINGS North Mountain 4-H Club The last meeting of the North Mountain 4-H Club was in Jan. at the Water Works Fireball. Congratulations to anyone who entered animals or items at the Farm Show. The Ronald McDonald House appreciated the soda tabs that members of the club gave to them. The 4-H Club would also like to thank anyone who donated items to the Ronald McDonald House, the club collected 266 items. The food that is donated to the house is given to the fami lies staying at the house. On Dec. 28, members of the club went to the Mennonite Cen- dure Team (fifth in state compe tition) of David Bittner, Adam Coleman, Nathan Croner, Mor gan Dickey, Jared Hay, Matthew Webreck, and Dusten Weigle. These items are then sent to flood victims around the world. The American Honey Queen presented a talk about farming. New projects are Adopt-A-Tree, backyard poultry, entomology, pigmy goats, and sign language. Demonstrations at the next morning will be crafts, and cook ing. For Valentine’s Day, differ ent members in the club made valentines for the veterans at the Veterans Hospital in Lebanon. The next meeting will be Feb. 26 at the Water Works Fireball, 6:30-8 p.m.
