The Chester County 4-H Dairy and Dairy Goat Awards Banquet was conducted Thurs day, Nov. 16 at the Goshen Fire Hall. A buffet style roast beef and ham dinner was served to 120 4-H’ers and their families and friends. The Manor Dairy Club was in charge of the affair, and various 4-H members conducted the meeting with Rebecca Nolan of Cochranville serving as master of ceremonies. Russ Albright of Mid-Atlantic Farm Credit gave the group an update on the Romano 4-H Cen ter of Chester County. Another successful 4-H roundup week was conducted in August, includ ing the dairy show, hosting 130 dairy animals. A very successful 4-H Center Benefit Auction was $10.9 Million WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Dan Glick man recently announced $10.9 million in grants for pest man agement programs. “These grants will be used to research safe' and effective strate gies for managing destructive farm pests,” said Glickman. Grants were awarded in four separate pest management pro grams. More than $4.3 million in grants will be awarded to four newly created regional pest man agement centers to provide an in formation network that responds quickly to the public’s pest man agement needs. Veronica Bates of Grady ville captured the High Achievement Award for the Chester County Kids Club. In the New London Club, Erin Whitesel had the top project award. The Jessica Bohmier Me morial Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Chester County 4-H Dairy Goat Program went to Erin Whitesel. Awards were also presented to the fitting and showing champions and the breed champions from the Chest er County 4-H Dairy Goat Roundup last summer. The top achievement award for dairy based on the toted proj ect score was won by Tri-Com munity member Christy Guest of Pottstown with her Holstein cow project, Century-Oak Tesk Joa nie. Meredith Baily, West Chester, captured the award in the Chester Valley Club and Emily Neilson of Chatham was the first-year winner. The Outstanding 4-H Dairy Volunteer Award, established in memory of Ken Brown, a dedi cated 4-H dairy parent, was pres ented to Sharon Nolan of Coch ranville. This award was determined from votes cast by the 4-H dairy members. Production Awards, based on M.E., 305 day records, 2X, were given to the top entries in six breeds. The Ayrshire winner for milk and protein was Pure-Ayr Jalan Donna Marie with 24,062-pounds of milk and 819-pounds of protein, entered by Elizabeth Young of West Grove. Meredith BaUy of West Chester won the milk and pro tein production award for line backs with Pocopson Meadow Jewel, delivering 21,217-pounds of milk and 650-pounds of pro tein. Christy Guest, Pottstown, had the high Holstein for milk and protein, Century-Oak Tesk Joanie, with 33,677-pounds of milk and 1,036-pounds of pro tein. Erica Lloyd of Pottstown captured the high milk and pro tein award for Jerseys with ELS Brook Berretta Jaycie, producing 21,476-pounds of milk and 746-pounds of protein.
