In the pro duction division of the show, Karaisz exhibited the first-place quarter horse filly of this year, A Major Reflection, and the fifth place 2-year-old filly, Sheza Ragun Star. In all, 14 Erie County 4-H horse club members participated in the State 4-H Horse Show at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg in late October. These 4-H’ers qualified for the state show by participating in county and district horse shows or by ex hibiting their production project animals at the Area 4-H Produc tion Show last summer. in the performance division of the show, Sarah Petri, Girard, a member of the Waterford Buck ing Broncos 4-H Club, placed seventh in English grooming and showmanship, junior division. Stephanie Patterson, Summit Township, a member of the Homesteaders 4-H Club, placed 10th in pleasure horse driving. Stephanie Rzepka, Greene 4-H HAPPENINGS Township, Tally Ho 4-H Club, placed ninth in hunter seat equi tation on the flat, junior division. Martha Stickner, Albion, a mem ber of the Trailblazers 4-H Club, placed fourth in English groom ing and showmanship, senior di vision. Tiffany Gilger, Corry, a member of the county’s newest 4-H horse club, the Horse Whis perers, placed fourth in open trail ponies. Other local exhibitors in the performance division of the show included Renee Schmader, North East, a member of the North East Hoof Pickers 4-H Club; and Karla Wisniewski, North East, and Kayla Edwards, Harbor creek, both members of the Buck-A-Roos 4-H Club. Several additional Erie County 4-H’ers exhibited horses in the production division of the show. They included Christy McGa hen, Waterford, Waterford Bucking Broncos, first place, paint yearling gelding; Gregg Parker, Ablion, Trailblazers 4-H Club, second place, paint year ling filly; and Paul Pavolko, Albi on, Trailblazers 4-H Club, third place, paint yearling filly. Jaclyn Belczyk, daughter of Jack and Carolyn Belczyk, Erie, and a member of the Clover Leaf Riders 4-H Club, received recog nition at the show as a finalist in the Pennsylvania Outstanding 4-H Horse Member Awards Pro gram. In honor of her accom plishments, she received a halter and leadline, donated by Weng ers Saddlery, York Springs. Berks 4-H Winners Berks County 4-H Horse members received 14 awards at the 41st Annual State 4-H Horse Show, Oct. 27-29 at the State Farm Show Complex in Harris burg. County winners in 4-H per formance classes were: Jessica Radcliff, Reading, won first place in pole bending horses and clover leaf barrel race horse; Liz Ehrig, Mertztown, placed third in hunter seat equitation, senior; Heather Seifrit, Douglassville, third place in clover leaf barrel race ponies, Rachel Wolfe, Bern ville, fourth place in stock seat equitation senior; and Caitlyn Kaczor, Centerport, fifth place in hunter under saddle horses. In 4-H horse production class es, members breed and raise their own project animal. Local win ners were Seth Hartman, Boyer town, first place with 2-year-old filly and first place in 2-year-old filly miniature horse; Rachel Wolfe, Bernville, with first place colt or gelding of this year, sec ond place colt or gelding of this year and third place 2-year-old filly, Molly Smith, Robesonia; Elisha Yerger, East Greenville, first place 2-year-old filly; and Amanda Reed, Mohnton, second place in 2-year-old gelding. “The competition gave 4-H’ers an opportunity to display their horsemanship skills,” said Debo rah Dietrich, Berks County 4-H coordinator. The Berks County 4-H pro gram earned first place honors for each day of judging and the overall reserve championship in the good housekeeping competi tion. The Berks County 4-H members were rewarded for keeping their horse stable area neat and clean and their hospi tality pleasant. Their stall decorating theme was “Y to Horse.” Additionally, the Rocky Mountain Riders Club earned a first-place award for their educa tional exhibit entitled “Coggins, Just the Facts.” More than 900 winners from county and district competitions vied for awards. Berks County had 19 4-H’ers entered in the competition. Events tested skills in showmanship, equitation, pleasure, jumping, driving, and timed events. Hastings Receives Friend Of 4-H Award Bucks County 4-H honored Kay M. Hastings with the Friend of 4-H Award at the 4-H Achievement Day recognition event recently. Hastings recently retired as Penn State Cooperative exten sion director, Bucks County, where she also served as the fam ily living and consumer sciences extension agent. Hastings was a 4-H youth member. As a Penn State em ployee, she served as Bucks County 4-H coordinator for sev eral years. “Thank you for your 38-plus years of service,” said Bucks County 4-H Development Fund Board President Jennifer Keller in presenting the award. Hastings resides in Doyies town with her husband, Robert.
