County winners in 4-H per formance classes were Mollie Shreiner, fifth in English groom ing and showmanship, junior; Lindsey Shreiner, seventh in English grooming and showman ship, senior; Shelly Fairchild, Heather McCormack, Julie Ans pach, third in county team; Keith Miller and Lindsey Shreiner took fourth in pleasure horse pairs; Callihan Schiliaci, fifth in west ern pleasure horses, junior rider; Ashley Hammer, third in reining; Stacy Landis, seventh in pole bending horses; Alisha Liles, fifth in clover leaf barrel race horses; Keith Miller, sixth in hunter under saddle horses, senior rider and Sara Shimko, second in hunter hack ponies (14.2 hands and under). In 4-H horse production class es, members breed and raise their own project animal. Local win ners were Lindsey Shreiner, Keith Miller, and Megan Show ers. Several other Lancaster Coun ty horse club members received recognition in the state contest. The primary purpose of the state 4-H horse program is to de velop life skills in youth and skills in horse management. Through competition, the 4-H’ers develop riding skills, gain self-confidence and leant proper care of animals. State 4-H Bucks County Winners Bucks County 4-H horse mem bers received four awards at the 41st Annual State 4-H Horse Show at the State Farm Show Complex. County winners in perform ance classes were Carolyn Velas, Quakertown; Justin Hobbs, Ot tsville; and Kathryn Mills, Beth lehem. Hobbs won fourth place in draft horse driving. He is the son of Joe and Beverly Hobbs and a member of Round-A-Bit 4-H Club. Velas placed ninth in open trail ponies. Daughter of Joseph and Deborah Velas, she is a member of Spurs N Burrs 4-H Club. Mills placed eighth in sad dle seat pleasure ponies and ninth in saddle seat equitation, senior. Kara Lom bardo, Doylestown, was in the Parade of Merit. She is the daughter of Daniel and Deborah Lombardo and a member of Rid ers of Dark Hollow 4-H Club. North Mountain 4-H The last meeting of the North Mountain 4-H Club was Oct. 30. The club recently went on a hay ride. The North Mountain 4-H Club selected new officers: president, Natalie Funk; secretary, Heather Meyer; treasurer, Anne Meyer; game committee, Amanda Eber sole, Liz Smith, and Mary Ellen Whitmoyer; and news reporter, Kate Gerber. The first place scrapbook win ner was Ben Reizer. The North Mountain 4-H Club is conducting a food drive for the Ronald McDonald house. 4-H families may contribute food or money for the house, such as canned vegetables, peanut butter, and canned spaghetti. Bring all food items to the January meet ing Dec. 28 the club is packing boxes to send to flood victims all around the world. The tractor restoration project is under way. Help the project by donating needed parts, or money. Fall projects are air riflery, adopt-a-tree, backyard poultry, cake decorating, entomology, old tractor restoration, vet science, and woodworking. The Airville 4-H Club meeting was conducted Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. The club had ham, rolls, covered dishes, desserts, iced tea, milk, and coffee on achievement night at Salem Methodist Church. Erie County 4-H’ers Excel At State Horse Show Erie County’s Laura Brooks, Union City, a member of Buck- A-Roos 4-H Club, won first place in the Clover Leaf Barrel Race Ponies class for the third consec utive year at the recent State 4-H Horse Show. This is a timed event, and Laura and her quarter horse, Tara’s Lika Brick, ran the course faster than any of the other con testants from across the state. Brooks, daughter of Debbie and Jeff Brooks, also rode in the pole bending ponies class at the show, placing second in that class. Adam Boyd, North East, also a member of the Buck-A- Roos 4-H Club, earned second place honors in the pole bending horses class at the show.
